That looks so cool. ^_^
I'm also new to 3D modeling, and suck greatly at rigging. ^_^;

Wow! Nice
Rigging is a pain :c It takes way too long and has many technical difficulties D:

But you're really good at 3D!

Last year when I rigged my character it took me two days no sleep :c
But maybe you won't feel so stressed rigging him since it doesn't have a due date right? ^^

no...but i gotta know HOW to rig first...orz...is there any tutorials online?? T.T

Voluntold In reply to aiki-ame [2012-06-08 02:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Yup I'm sure there's a lot ^^

I downloaded a digital tutors rigging tutorial and used that.
What software are you using?

ahaha...maya. i don't know any other softwares. :/

Voluntold In reply to aiki-ame [2012-06-08 05:34:06 +0000 UTC]

I only know Maya as well ^^

You only realy need to know one general software and a handful of standalone function dedicated softwares(Like Topogun and Headus UV Layout)

Do you think you'll learn to rig in your course?

haha i don't even know any other standalone function dedicated softwares..yeah we learn about rigging next year. but i wanna get a head start. ^,^;

hehe! You're like me ^^ Always trying to get a head start
I wish I could give you the rigging tutorials I have >.<
Oh yeah its fine if you dont know those softwares, it just helps speed workflow up. Like UV mapping can be done so fast using Headus instead of Maya

Man I haven't actually textured a single 3D model yet :c From looking at your work it seems I should move to your school xD

aiki-ame In reply to Voluntold [2012-06-08 07:59:42 +0000 UTC]

haha...only because i'm slow at learning, so i need to get a head start. TvT;;

aww i want your rigging tutorials~ why can't you give them to meeee??

and now you made me want to learn Headus. hoho~ i shall look into that.

ha...you guys have actually done rigging and animation! I want to move to YOUR school. coz sam said AUT start with animation first then modelling since students actually learn better animation that way. Whereas in Massey we start with modelling first...

Aww >.<

Because it's 3Gigs >.< Too much to upload!! They're from digital-tutors which is a really good tutorial website(You have to pay to watch, unless you *ahem* obtain them elsewhere >....>

Yeah definitely do! It's so easy. I never UV lay out anything in Maya though so I feel kinda useless xD

I ended up dropping animation though. AUT crams a whole lot of things into one course. Film, Visual effects, 2D animation, 3D animation, character design, pre-visualisation, maya modelling, Zbrush sculpting, rigging, interactive design(My favourite <3!!)

But the problem is that there isnt enough time to spend on each one to produce high quality creations :c And also the quality of teachers is quite mediocre. One teacher teaches a lot of subjects although he is only proficient in one.

It's a great starting course to understand the industry and everything, but I feel like moving to a different school sometime :c

awww you dropped animation~ >.< what a pity...so what is the course you are doing now?

That is a hell lot of things to stick in one course. O___O Although i like how it actually sounds pretty pro and specific, whereas in massey it seems all we are doing is pretty beginner stuff. And our teacher's really not very good. As far as I know we only have one teacher that teaches 3D modelling and all her tutorials are off the net. -.-;; from what i've heard i would still say AUT has it all. XD feel good about being in it.

The course is still Digital Design, but the options I chose were:
-Visual Effects (After Effects)
-Character Design (Maya and Zbrush)
-Game Design (I'm not 100% sure what software, but most likely Unity3D)
And the compulsory papers are:
- Theory (BLEH Essays gah :c )
- DTD (Short film for first half of the first semester, and GEOReality app for the second half)
And next semester we do a semester long project based on anything we want! Im so excited for that. Im going to make a game ^^

To be honest I didnt enjoy actually animating. I preferred creating

Aww >.< I think it must be a university thing. It's because it's a new industry so they haven't found the professionals yet. Im considering going to Media Design school after I graduate from AUT to do game design (Im not sure if I'll do the artsy side or the programming side since I love both!)

wow...sounds like hard out stuff. i'm jealous...actually it sounds like what we would do in third/fourth year.

in fourth year we get to do our own project. i'm amazed you are doing that in second year. O_O so what do you do in third year?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Voluntold In reply to aiki-ame [2012-06-17 21:54:51 +0000 UTC]

In third year we do a year long project as well as doing smaller projects along the way
The second year half semester project is kind of practice for the third year one ^^
I still wanna work in a group though!!

ahaha...i just started learning this semester. I use Maya...What's Metasequoia? o-o;;

Cactaceous In reply to aiki-ame [2012-06-08 03:29:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh cool! Metasequoia is a 3D modeling program just like as Maya and Blender. It's mostly used for MikuMikuDdance models, though.

ooooh i did see some mikumikudance models, i wonder if you could transfer maya models into that?

I have no clue...but I'm sure there's a plug-in you can install that converts to .PMX or .PMD
