General Motor's production on the TBF since Grumman had to produce Hellcats.

Flown by LTJG George H.W Bush, who later became the 41st President of the United States in 1989-1993, his TBM, named after his fiancé Barbara Pierce, was shot down over Chichi-jima on 2nd September 1944.

Although his gunner and radioman was killed in action, Bush managed to strike the island's radio station and was subsequently rescued by the Gato-class submarine USS Finback on lifeguard duty, eventually surviving the infamous incident where Japanese troops killed and cannibalized captured U.S pilots on the island.

Bush ended the war in the state of Michigan, training torpedo pilots.
