I've had that sketch lie around quite a long time now... then got inspired by =I-NetGraFX 's latest work to try myself at matte painting. I'm ok with the result, but took way too long... about 80% color and a few stock Photos, original width >4000px. Foreground trees are from I-netGraFX.Not too Sci-Fi this time,i wanted to integrate more landscape parts. Anyways, i hope you like

pyxelated had a good point, and the identical trees do look a bit funny. The bright waterfall also looks a bit too sharp, but these are details. Overall I think it's a very beautiful piece.

Brilliant, I love the glow of the city. Although I dont agree with the mountain fountain, or whatever that is, the color of it doesnt fit in with the rest of the picture.

the thumbnail almost looks like a foto from a postcard ... so hyperrealistic

Oh- one more thing. The foreground skyscraper is reflecting what's behind it, not behind the viewer. It should be reflecting trees and sky, not lights.

Good end result, but you're not quite there. The bases of your buildings are the wrong color of shadow, and they're the wrong shape. Also be careful about making the windows so perfectly reflective; imperfection is perfection.

hey! I think the best of your paintings at the moment, but there is a problem are the nearer buildings, theyre great BUT if you see in the down part of its, there is only shadow.

but the reflections on the main 3 buildings make it look like the buildings are transparent (the reflections look like they exactly match the city directly behind the buildings, roads align, same local pattern, etc...)

Eep! *forgot something major* The picture seems to be well balanced with the sky and the city part, but the black part at the bottom seems to cut us viewers off (me at least). The picture may possibly look better if you gave some shadowed shrubbery and forestry in the foreground, and if you'd take off the black parts to make a full-screen type of thing.

Finally! XD Ok, so anyway, here are the reasons: I don't think the water was done as well as you could have (like that stuff through the middle of the city--if that's not a highway or something-- and that waterfall to the right). The buildings look a bit too clear, instead of reflective. I mean... It's like I can see exactly what's behind them, but it's just barely distorted. ...If that's what you were going for, then it's my mistake.
Suggestion for something that I'd like to see: Try looking up the Sky City concept (I'd give it to you, but I don't have any of it now, nor do I know where to look... besides maybe the Discovery Channel's site) and put two or three of those buildings in the city in the background (they'd be 2/3 of a mile high, and pretty friggin' wide).
Other info: Sky City is the concept of a building that will be in Taipei (I believe), and it will have several open-air levels that ultimately reach 2/3 of a mile high. The building will have parks, recreational facilities, movie theatres, bowling alleys, tv stations, grocery stores, thousands upon thousands of appartments and housing areas, hospitals.... basically a city inside of a building. A person would be able to live his/her entire life without setting foot on the earth, but the person could still get natural (or polluted) air by the open air levels which allow air to flow into the center areas of the building.

I'd really say the buildings look more transparent then reflective, but that might have been the intention. It's a cool effect though. I like the colors but the composition seems a bit spread out.
