Description
Oikawa had always appreciated how you knew how to be quiet, a trait he never quite managed to learn. People would laugh at the boy, often teasing him how on earth he got such a lovely girl like you to agree to go out with him. He receives grief from his parents and his and your friends alike, always chastising him to treat you well. And Oikawa knew that months could pass, years (and he hopes that the two of you you will still be together in the matter of 'years' and 'futures'), and he would still feel unworthy of someone like you.
So on a sleepy and rainy Sunday morning, you find yourself finishing your breakfast and none other than Oikawa himself shows up at your door. It's spring, meaning it's that unusual yet largely unappreciated type of weather where it's bordering summer but is still winter. You're in your pajama shorts and one of his shirts of which you drown in due to how much taller he is than you. You've tied up your hair in a lazy messy bun and you are currently enjoying a quiet breakfast of warm tea and toasted bagel.
You invite him in - you being very well used to the surprise visits he often makes - and he steps in, slipping off his hoodie and his shoes. With a large smile, he tells you that he's here to take you out on a date and you shoot him a warm smile in return.
You finish your breakfast and drowsily go to your room to get ready, Oikawa following you around like a lost puppy and occasionally pecking you on the cheek absentmindedly. You brush your teeth with the tall brunette chatting to you in the bathroom door frame, rambling on about volleyball and Iwaizumi and his cute nephew. And he follows you to your room, hoping you won't shut the door as you get dressed. But you see the ghost of a mischievous smirk painting his lips as you walk into your room and you push him out with a silly grin, shutting the door to get dressed in privacy.
You soon emerge from your room with a simple knitted, dark blue, and lengthy cardigan above Oikawa's plain white shirt and your black reading glasses perched atop your head. You're wearing a pair of black leggings and you slip on a pair of dark blue Toms and an oversized zip-up maroon hoodie.
Oikawa's already waiting for you at the door with his usual goofy smile and you can't help but to smile as well as he opens the door for you. You pull your hood above your head and hook your arm with his. Before you leave, you manage to bring along the big, transparent umbrella. As the two of you step onto the streets, you open up the umbrella. He wraps his hand around your hand that holds the umbrella and looks down at you with a gentle smile, wordlessly asking you to give him the umbrella so he can shelter the both of you.
You smile in return and let the much taller teen raise the umbrella above both of your heads. You feel him wrap his arm around your shoulder and bring you closer to him. He rests his head on yours and you chuckle softly as the two of you walk down the block.
"Where are you taking me?"
He hums out his reply, "It's a surprise," and smiles ahead.
You roll your eyes and decide that it's better to merely go with the flow with Oikawa. You follow his steps and avoid the huge puddles. Inevitably you splash in a few and wail as the cold water seeps through your shoes. He notices that minutes later you're shivering and offers to carry you the rest of the way. You slap his shoulder in a flustered manner as his husky laugh floats through the raindrops.
"We're almost there," he says to offer you a bit of console. "I promise it's nice and warm where I'm taking you,"
You wouldn't expect Oikawa, out of all people, to take you to the library for a date.
Of course, you're beyond grateful but you know Oikawa well enough to know that the boy cannot simply sit in a chair and read. You look up at him incredulously. "Tooru, you shouldn't have-"
"I want to!" he chirps happily, pulling you up the steps to the library and opens the door for you. And you know there isn't any arguing with Oikawa once he's got his heart set on something.
"We can go somewhere else if you want to," you whisper as he pulls you into the one of the many aisles of bookshelves.
He shakes his head fervently. "[Name]-chan, you're always doing things for me." he starts gently, his fingers grazing the spines of the shelf eye-level to him. His eyes follow his fingers and he taps them on the plastic covers on the book. "I wanted to take you somewhere where you feel at home," he hums.
Your heart flutters at his words. Of course Oikawa certainly is the affectionate type of boyfriend and you appreciate that he wants to do something you like for a change to know you better and to understand how you are. "Tooru," you murmur, wrapping yourself around his waist.
He buries his face into your hair and takes a deep breath of your scent, hugging you.
You're the first to pull away, smiling up at him and lacing your fingers with his. "Okay then, let's go look for a book." you say, pulling him through the various genres in the large library.
He sneaks kisses behind your ears when you're leading him through the maze of floor to ceiling shelves and bends down to kiss your cheeks as you're reading the titles of the books. He watches you carefully as you reach out with your slender fingers to pull a book out of the shelf. He watches you open the book to the flap and read the description on the back. You flip through the pages with your thumb and hold the whirring pages to your nose, inhaling the scent of it. He laughs at you softly, getting into the act as well as he looks for a book.
In the end, the two of you find your way to an open alcove on the upper level of the library. In your hand is the diary of Anne Frank and in Oikawa's is Looking For Alaska. The alcove is perfect for two, two comfy reading chairs on either side of the alcove showcasing a large bay window with a relaxing view of the city below.
You sink into the luxury of the leather chair and crack open the book. Oikawa follows you suit as he relaxes into his chair and sighs. He takes on last look at you, you bearing an honest and raw expression that can only be described as a person feeling very at home and natural. He chuckles before opening his book and starting to read.
He still can't focus on the words on the page as he steals more glances at you rather than actually reading.
