Ha, now this is really, really old!!

From before I joined dA, even (I think I got my account in 2005?) but I recently joined the #Read-It-Draw-It group and wanted to contribute something that is not Discworld/Harry Potter/Artemis Fowl.

So, "Slay and Rescue", a very silly but also really hilarious parody on fantasy and fairy tales, written by one John Moore in 1993.

The writing style has been compared to Terry Pratchett's, but I'd much rather compare it to the "Shrek" movies, as it lacks the deeper thoughts and social commentary of Sir Terry's works while being full of popcultural references, crazy fairy-tale characters, and wacky adventures.

The story is basically about handsome, brave (and quite one-track minded - but hey, he's 17!) Prince Charming who spends his days slaying monsters, fighting villians, rescueing princesses, and fervently hoping one of latter might finally thank him by offering more than just a chaste kiss on the cheek...

Of course, there is a proper plot as well - and one that gets surprisingly complex and with a few twists at least I didn't see coming, and a happy end where really absolutely every character is happy!! XD

It's not great literature but great fun with likable characters and I definitely recommend it to everyone who enjoys fantasy parodies

PS: Have my drawing skills improved much since 2003...? Not really! XD The only difference is I hardly use coloured pencils any more (yay copic markers!) but the character design is totally the same as 8 years ago XDDD
