Description
With Junior’s presence being put to rest, new systems were to be put into place. To begin with, Junior’s need for nuclear energy. Junior was still a Godzilla, and Godzilla needed radiation. Decommissioned nuclear facilities in Japan yet to be torn down were recommissioned as Godzilla Junior Feeding Stations, where organic food is to be offered and a system to allow Junior to access the radioactive materials being burned.Meanwhile, Japan needed to address Tokyo…
Tokyo itself was so inhospitable to humanity, that it was used for only a single purpose anymore. That purpose was a waste dump for toxic waste and material. For years the act had been criticized heavily and frowned upon from inside and outside of Japan. Pollution had many, many times come to be the direct cause of many of the giant monsters that had appeared in the world. The island where Junior was discovered was also home to Rodan, who by the time of its discovery, had grown Godzilla-sized. Further radiation exposure gave it more power still. As well, Battra and Mothra came as a direct result of the current generation of mankind causing pollution. Battra awoke to destroy mankind to protect the planet, and yet may return. If the giant monsters went into thousands of years of dormancy then, who is to say Battra had not somehow survived and was readying to return? Mothra had yet to return to possibly fend him off, but it was believed that she still lived as the meteorite predicted to come in 1999 had not come to pass.
A few months after Godzilla Junior’s had come ashore by request, it began to be clear just how bad the pollution in Tokyo Bay truly was. Rather it may be easier to say how clean it was! The waters in Tokyo Bay were quartered off by miles and miles of flotilla and nets to limit what could leak into the pacific ocean. Everything that went into the bay stayed there. It became a shock to see that over the years, the amount of chemicals and oils that had been building up was diminishing. Following this, sea vessels inside and outside of the bay had begun to suffer attacks from unseen and unknown forces.
Junior was naturally called in for his first attempt to confront whatever it was, but he dared not go near the bay. Whatever was there even had a Godzilla avoiding the area, a bad sign indeed.
The day came when whatever was inside of the bay broke out, dragging the boats and nets for miles. Several went under while many were dragged along over the surface. The head it seemed to have was Shizouka. Along the way, mines were dropped upon it to no avail, and only succeeded in angering it. Massive arms emerged from the sea and coiled ship after ship, crushing and sinking them to the bottom of the sea.
The form came upon shore before long… But so did Junior. A massive body among many arms, one massive red and yellow eye. The battle began.
Hitodah, the giant starfish, lasted a very short time against the King of Monsters. Physically it had the upper hand, coiling and binding Junior so he physically could not fight back. Burns inflicted where its arms and central body latched. It regretted this decision as Junior’s spines flickered to life, and a pulse of energy had blown the creature off his body and severed two of its arms.
It rose up to lash out again, but an atomic beam followed up and destroyed its central body. Despite this, each arm and piece writhed and attempted to move to come back together. Junior set them ablaze, reduced to burning piles of foul smelling goo.
Bits and pieces still survived, but even if they did not, more Hitodah appeared in the following months. It is unlikely that it would reproduce on its own, but pieces would regenerate in a few short weeks in good conditions of its preferred environment: high pollutant areas. Somehow, somewhat, a starfish had somehow adapted to feed off mankind’s pollution. The only explanation was that somehow the Hitodah were being torn asunder by something else, but what?
Junior had to deal with them on a daily basis, but his effectiveness was only as good as his damage dealt. Telekinesis were used to encourage him to burn every piece of every Hitodah he found, but to no avail. New actions would need to be taken to find and eliminate them while they were small, for they more or often did regenerate from very small pieces not far from a normal starfish.
Like it or not though, Hitodah was here to stay, and soon there would be far worse to worry about than just a massive toxic starfish.
