This is a good photo. There's not really anything going on in it, but it's still interesting to look at.

The wall running down the centre of the photo provides a nice, clear, visually interesting line of perspective, and a good flat surface that the different shapes in the background can rise up from. It allows the different shaped ruins to provide visual variety while making it easier to make them out.

There is a good mix of shadow and light in this photo. The angle that it's shot at allows us to see a great deal of the arena, and allows us to get an idea of the arena's size (we can compare the size of the doorways - if that's what they are - in the corner with the rest of the building).

Plenty of space is also given to the blue of the sky, the browns of the ruins and the green of the grass. That gives some nice visual variety, too. The sky goes quite well with the rest of the scene - there isn't quite as much blue as I'd have liked, but the clouds, while they're interesting to look at, are nice and faint, so they don't distract my attention from the ruins - which probably should be the focus of this picture.
