What is this program tht you use? I've never heard of it before...

Oh, its Carrara, its a mid level 3D software package, kind of like Maya or 3D Max. The regular version is about $200 dollars, where 3D Max or Maya is about $1500. If, your interested in learning or starting in 3D basics this is a good site to start at [link] , they also have a free starter software called DAZ Studio that cna get you started.
If you check it out do the quick tour it wil explain everythint, let me know if you need any help or are interested.

The details are absolutely amazing! I wish I could draw like that.
I just think you should add a drop shadow coming off the earing, it would look much more realistic.

Yes, there is about 40% postwork, mostly adding satuation some color burn and a stweek here and there. I usually create the scene, pose, and light. With this I used GI with a HDRI map. I color burned the greens and reds on the monster and tweeked the hair color on the Vampire-Elf.
I have found that getting rich colors is my favorite thing to do within the process, my software of choice is Cararra Pro for all 3D stuff, postwork is done with Adobe Photoshop CS3, and crunching an details in Adobe Fireworks.

Haha! I love that alien-dragon thing. Took me a moment to fin its eyes.
A note about the woman's earrings, though, they look like they're pasted on. A little shadow on the skin would make those pop out.
