Yesterday, a theater piece was made at Cambrai, and i had the pleasure to make an exhibition with my class. It talked about Alan Turing.

If you don't know who he is, Alan Turing was a mathematician. He created a complex machine, able to decode the nazis' machine, the Enigma. This machine was sending thousands and thousands of coded messages, and thanks to Turing's machin, the great britian was able to understand them, and avoid some attacks, sparing millions lives and shortening the second world war by two years. Turing also had a complicated personnality. He was obsessed by numbers, always in his inner world, singular, clumsy, self-centered.

I wanted to represent him like a photo montage, in John Heartfield's style. I wanted to represent him, as his own perception of the world : obsessed with his machine, seeing everywhere numbers, decoding. Even his eyes are made with mathematical operations. It gives him a threatening and strange aura, as if he wasn't human : it was how people saw him. Strangeness saw by people, was his daily interests during his entire life saw by him. Our point of view only depends of where we are.
