Description The 1996 Presidential Election was the 55th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 5, 1996. Republican incumbent Ronald Reagan defeated Bill Clinton and won a second term to office. Sworn in January of 1997, Reagan would serve for one more year before resigning due to health problems, leaving Vice-President John C. McCain III as the 30th President of the United States.
