1/8 second... so not very
if it was longer water would eventually get on the lens

I don't understand. The only thing that opens during the exposure is the sensor, which is enclosed behind the lens. Drops of water on the lens itself can only be prevented by keeping the lens cap on, and when they occur are not generally harmful.

I'm in agreement with everybody who's commented on this photo and remarked at the beauty of the location and the choice of angle. I wish I lived near such places of natural beauty.

i never said harmful.
it just ruins the photo, when water gets on the lens and looks like a giant blob

Even so, water can get on the lens as long as the lens cap is off, regardless of the shutter speed you use.

Ah, ok. I didn't think the water flow would look the same if we viewed it through our eyes as opposed to a camera lens. But I'm open to be proven wrong, I don't have a place like that around where I live and I don't travel much.

yeah. it didnt look the same.. camera smudged the water nicely, even if only during 1/8th of a second
