A painting for a personal project. I LOVE dragons, who doesn't??
Usually we see them as sinister and violent creatures, I wanted this one to be playful and friendly...but don't be fooled, this one will still smote your ass if you get on it's bad side!

Basic brushes and texture brushes were used on this, nothing fancy. It all came down to proper lighting and rendering, which is why it took so dang long

Aaw wow, this is some wild stuff; dragons are awesome, who cannot love them?? I love seeing them, and this dragon you've got going here
looks terrific! I like that his face is melded to convey familiarity and playfulness, but still creepy enough to be ferocious if the need come to it.
The family is all in sync with that, too; the guy on top of the beast is awesome, swinging his little spoon around like a warrior.

I'm trying to figure out exactly where the big guy's wings are jointed and connected to his body and I'm having trouble doing that.

This turned out great from your sketch! Asymmetrical balance and composition, focus between the fore & backgrounds, illumination from below and backlit, textured details on dragon looks great. You got everything going on here and I like the whimsical scene of a "family" dragon as a pet.
