"Warforged were design with one, single purpose in mind--war. Built to serve in the Last War, and sold as disposable soldiers, it wasn't uncommon to enter the battlefield and see that the opposing ranks would stare back with faces of metal and stone instead of flesh. Some, however, found their design too limited, and took to upgrading this artificial beings themselves. The lack of easy to access magic in particular was a problem, so many different companies sought to skip the need to train a Warforged in the arts of magic and grant them powers artificall. Thus, the rank of Resounder was born--Warforged augmented with a powerful device that drew upon residual magic in the air, often leftover from spellcasters on the battlefield, and processed it through a hyper-refined dragonshard to grant its used a lineup of powerful evocation spells."

A homebrew item from my Eberron Campaign, the Arcane Core is an upgrade component for warfroged that grants them the ability to cast a few evocation spells such as magic missile and firebolt. While none of my players in the campaign play a warforged, it does make combat against the basic warforged enemy much more interesting.
