Description
1961, a single unidentified flying object is spotted through out northern Europe, flying at incredible speed.A pair of SAAB J29F Tunnan scrambles to identify the object but are attacked the very instant they make visual contact. The pilots barely manage to dodge the green slimy goo the UFO fires upon them.
Soon the UFO looses interest in this inferior opponent and nonchalantly speeds away at full speed, not paying these flying machines another thought. No thing made of man can compete with their superior technology, so why bother they thought.
Little did they know, that the J29F, one of the worlds fastest fighters had the capability to intercept and destroy them with the use of their quadruple 20mm cannons.
No UFO's have been spotted over Swedish territory ever since.
Planes and UFO are 3D models, clouds and smoke are painted in Photoshop.
The landscape is a photo.

Hell yeah, post work is where the fun are! The smoke is painted in post, the planes are touched up in post (they are 5000 poly models, so I added some details and smoothed out visible edges in post). Then lots of color adjustments, small details no one will notice and other effects.

Naturally it's going down. No one messes with the Swedish Airforce, especially not slimy aliens.

What? Naturally it's a Saab aircraft. I only use the finest quality products for my images.
Here's some more info about it: [link]

It's the exact same plane I used for my image, Gul Rudolf. Well, the plane on the left is. It was the last flying J29 in the world, and I was lucky enough to be stationed at the same airbase as this plane when some veterans took it up for some of the last flights, so I've seen it fly quite a few times.

Oh yes! I mistaked it with the f-86... They're quite same really. And oh how I envy you seeing it fly! Well I'm a big fan of Saab aircraft myself.

Love Saab crafts myself, especially the J29 after reading some books about the plane in action during the 60's in Kongo. The J29 is the only Swedish "modern" plane that has been used in real combat. The Etiopian airforce had some F-86 in Kongo aswell, and the Swedish pilots asked if they wanted to try some dogfighting against the J29, but apparantly they declined.

Haha! They both Well they both were almost the last type of aircraft who actually could go head-to-head. My favourite aircraft from that time would be the MiG-17. One supreme massive cannon could wipe out a whole bomber with one burst. A real Korean veteran. (Haha, but their pilots defected that much that USAF made a whole squadron of MiGs.)

Alfredsson In reply to cccitsme [2005-12-18 22:16:20 +0000 UTC]
Might not be a good idea, since frankly, I don't have a clue about it. I did this smoke by painting some scribbles in several layers in Photoshop until it started looking somewhat smoky. Trial and error, with emphasis on error.

That kicks ass Im fascinated with UFO-Alien things especially with incidents involving the military, and this just KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!!! Omfg you have to make more of these, research and do one about the UFO which was shot down by Iraqis in the first gulf war and how it was seized by the US gov't. Or do one about the UFO in Nova Scotia, Canada which was seen flying around at night for days which crashed into some body of water and they scrambled submarines but it escaped into the ocean, releasing a yellow liquid which lowered the water's PH level significantly... o.O'

Wow, those sound like some interesting events indeed, well worth to keep in mind for future projects. Haven't done any image with much water or oceans in it, so might be a good idea in the future. Doing an image of the actual impact into the water sounds like fun. But now, busy with the pre-production of my next image. No UFO's there I'm afraid.

Wow, that's absolutely terrific. Several years ago, I bought and built a plastic "flying saucer" model (made by the now-defunct Glencoe Co.). It was so cool, I then had to go and and build a 1/48 scale F-94 Starfire to go along with it, since that what was on the 50's vintage box art. The models came out alright, but my desire to create an image along the lines of what you've done have been thwarted by my lack of technical skill. Apparently, we are 'light-years' away from each other! If you'd care to see a more primitive species of artiste, check out my gallery and take a look at "softlanding."
