Have you ever done life studies in the dark? It looks like that, those values look good, something a camera wouldn't capture

It looks very realistic! It must be hard working with such dark colors. It must require working in darkness in order to see what you're doing
I love northern lights, but I imagine them being more colorful?

I love this, I grew up in a place that could be described just as this, and I can instantly smell that cold night snow smell of the country I think the aurora makes it feel more illustration-y than photo-y but really they're both wonderful.

Beautiful work. I gotta say, though, I kinda liked it better before you added the sky. Maybe it's a balance thing.

awesome man, do you usually pick your color palettes through photo reference you've looked at before?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

algenpfleger In reply to yefumm [2012-04-19 10:11:21 +0000 UTC]

What no, that would be so lame. Making it up on the spot is the only way to get it really consistent while having the satisfying feeling of it being your own work :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

yefumm In reply to algenpfleger [2012-04-19 10:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see, do you ever run into the problem of having your colors be too similar from painting to painting, or has your studying sort of expanded your library, so you can avoid having repetitive color schemes?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

algenpfleger In reply to yefumm [2012-04-19 10:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Well you're always kiiinda stuck but the studying makes it stay within acceptable bounds I think. Though I can't really judge my own stuff obviously, maybe it all looks the same and I don't notice o_ob

yefumm In reply to algenpfleger [2012-04-19 10:31:19 +0000 UTC]

Ohhhh, thanks so much for the advice, and thanks for this awesome step by step, and no, your colors are all really varied, so you don't even have to worry about that.
