CHAPTER ONE

Arrived at 2:05, March 21st

I finally arrive on the mysterious planet we have been studying for a while now. While studying it on Earth, my friend discovered that it possess oxygen. So I didn’t need a mask or something. The first thing I noticed when I got off of the space ship was the fresh air. I couldn’t believe how fresh it was. Then I saw some trees. They were a lot bigger than the ones on earth. It looked like a forest. I thought maybe I could go in to study some plants or maybe discover new species. But first I needed to find something to protect myself. I didn’t know what was waiting for me out there. My friend, Kylle, stayed in the space ship to take care of it. He gave me a little gun to protect myself. I practiced a lot on shooting moving objects so I think I’m going to be fine on my own.

I went into the big forest and saw a lot of beautiful plants. My favorite was a little one with green and blue petals. I heard something in the trees on top of my head. A strange boy was looking at me, smiling. He had long silver hair and sparkling green eyes. He looked like a human but I noticed he had long animal-like ears and a tail like a monkey. At first he said something but I didn’t understand him. He was probably talking in his language, a language I never heard before. I said, in my language, that I couldn’t understand him. He laughed and jumped down the tree. “Ha, you’re not from around here, correct?” he said with a big smile on his face. I was surprised to see that he could talk my language. “Yes, that’s right. I just arrived from planet Earth. Oh I come in peace of course!” I said to him, a little scared. He laughed and told me his name was Mika. He then explained to me that he was a Latharien, a common species that looks just like humans except for the ears and tails. He was clearly not afraid of me, even though I held a gun in my right hand. I told him my name was Alice. He said it was a very beautiful name. I smiled. He was very friendly. He even asked me if I wanted him to show me the place. I accepted without hesitation.

We walked for a couple minutes and arrived at a very large lake in the middle of the forest. The water was so pure and fresh. There was some fish in it, too. We then continued to walk in the forest. We saw some little creatures playing around. They looked like little cats. They were all black and cute. Mika said they are very playful with everybody, but if you upset them they will attack. So I kept my distances. We then got out of the forest. The sun was shining bright. It was a nice and warm feeling. Mika said there are seasons on this planet, just like Earth. But some regions are always the same. For example, on the other side of the planet there is a small region and it’s always snowing over there. It’s winter all year long.

I was starting to really love this planet. I asked to Mika if they had any kind of technology. He said they have computers and other kind of technology but only for medical use. They don’t have any personal computers, no cellphones and no cars. They do have electricity though. They use it to power the medical machines and lamps. Mika asked me if I wanted to visit his village. “It depends, I said, are the others friendly like you?” He smiled and said “Well everyone has their own personality. But most of the people are very nice and sociable.” I was surprised to see how similar they are to us. Then I asked if they all know English. He said most of them know how to speak English. “Well then let’s go, I said, I want to see your village.” Mika looked at me with a weird look in his eyes. He shouted something I couldn’t understand and then told me not to be afraid. Well, I was starting to be afraid. I heard something getting closer and closer to us. When it came close enough, I could see the big monster. It was really, really big. It was like a big wolf with sharp teeth and red eyes. His fur was golden and fluffy. “Alice this is Zek, Mika said, he is going to bring us to the village.” “But how?” I asked in front of the big wolf. “Hop on my back!” said Zek with a soft voice that surprised me. I hesitated. Mika got up first and then I followed him. Then we were running through the wind, heading towards the village.

We finally arrived at the village. It was in the middle of another forest. No, it was more like a jungle. It was beautiful. Some houses were made with wood and others with stone. They looked like they were in such a good harmony with the jungle. “Most of us lives in little villages in forests or jungles, said Mika, and the Syerra tribe, which is Zek’s tribe, lives with us in harmony.” “So the Syerra tribe you’re talking about are all big wolves?” I asked. “Yes, that’s right. They help us a lot. We give them a place to stay and they give us a transportation way on their back. In times of war our kind and the Syerra tribe made an alliance and fought together to protect the kingdom and our homes. Brave Latharien warriors mounting fearsome wolves from the Syerra tribe.” “What an amazing story!” I said really impressed.

I was starting to get hungry. Mika told me to follow him, so I did. We entered what seemed like the market section of the village. There were some merchants trying to sell their products. This part of the village was a lot more alive than the rest. There were merchants and people shopping for their food and even some kids playing around. We stopped at a one of the merchants to buy something to eat. “Well, well if it isn’t Mika! How are you?” said the merchant. He seemed really friendly and full of joy. “Hey, Rodger! I’m good, thanks for asking.” “Who is this girl?” asked Rodger. Mika explained him everything. “Ha, I see! Well enjoy your stay my friend, said Rodger to me. I hope Max won’t be upset that you brought a human around, Mika, he then said to Mika.” “Don’t worry, she is not evil, he said looking at me with a sarcastic smile. Besides she is not going to stay for a very long time, Max will accept it.” “Who is this Max you’re talking about?” I asked. “He is the chef of this village” Mika said. “And a very good man!” said Rodger.

We continued talking a bit and joking around. Then we bought something to eat and said goodbye to Rodger. “He is a very funny man” I said to Mika. “Oh, yes he is! said Mika with a small laugh. But tell me, how do you like it here? How long are you going to stay?” I didn’t want to even think of leaving this place. I wanted to stay longer but I could not. “I really like it here, but… I have to leave tonight” I said with a sad voice. “Tonight? Do you really have to leave?” He said with a sad look on his face. “Yes, I have to. I’m going to miss you Mika. But don’t worry, I’ll find a way to come back, I swear!” I said almost crying. I didn’t want to leave my new friend behind, but I had no other choice. “I better go now before it gets too hard for me to leave, I said. I’ll miss you Mika, goodbye.” He said goodbye and smiled. But I saw in his eyes a lot of sadness. Well I guess my journey ends here…
