Description This is a tutorial for Apophysis 7x, or any version of Apophysis with 3D capabilities, and is intended for those with a good basic knowledge of the program. The download includes a 30 page tutorial, a flame pack and a gradient pack, and was created by the amazing ~TsukinoHikari20 as one of my prizes for the Back to Fractal Class contest. She did a brilliant job converting my confusing mess into an detailed, easy to follow tutorial, so please visit her gallery and give her lots of attention!
This tutorial teaches you how I made the fractal Xenophilia [link] but it's intended as a learning resource and basis for your own experimentation only. Please don't post fractals which are identical or very similar to my own, and don't copy my original gradient as there are many others in the pack.
Now go forth and create some beautiful, unique fractals And don't forget to show me your results. I will be featuring them in my journal very soon

Please note: I did not invent the spherical 3D style. It has been done before. I'm just showing you how I made one specific fractal. The spherical 3D plugin was created by *TyrantWave and you can download it here [link]

Another note: Please ignore any instructions related to the 'post process' tab if your version of apo doesn't have this feature. The tutorial will work perfectly well without it. Also, if you are unsure about the instruction 'hit calculate color values' please read =Frankief 's helpful comment

Just FYI, in all version of Apo, in the top tool bar, next to file, edit, view you will see flame, drop down the menu and you will find the "calculate color as well as randomize color or you can randomize the color by pressing control, alt, n on the key board.

Okay, thanks very much for the info I feel a bit silly now I've never really used those functions before and I must have completely forgotten about them

Goodness! Don't feel silly! Apo has a lot of hidden menus and commands and if you don't know they are there than you can't use them!

Hi, and thanks for the tuto, but I'm having a small issue with the last part of making the base fractal.

You say "hit calculate color values.', but unless I've completely missed that part of apo, I don't have it for some reason.

So unless I want the whole fractal to be one colour, I have to change the colour settings on each xform or at least a few of them... or is there something else?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alien-dreams In reply to jemgirl [2012-01-26 17:45:22 +0000 UTC]

Hi there, I'm really sorry you had difficulty with the tut. ~TsukinoHikari20 made it as a contest prize for me and she must use some strange version of Apo I have no idea what 'calculate colour values' means either To create the original fractal, I used Apo 7x and changed the colour settings on each of the transforms. To see the exact settings I used you can look at the 'Xenophilia' fractal in the flame pack. Of course, different gradients could require different colour settings, so you may need to experiment a little. I hope this info helps, but if you have any further question, feel free to ask

jemgirl In reply to alien-dreams [2012-01-28 11:23:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, to a point. I coloured a few my way, then I used what came with the tuto to mess with the fractal even more.

I'll post something soon. Right now I'm rendering one out then I have to sleep, then I'll wake up and tag it before posting.

I'll stop back here to leave a link.

Later.

Hi and first of all thanks for this tutorial!

However, I can't seem to find the Post Process tab in my Adjustment window. Is there a special Apo7x version needed? I downloaded the most recent one from the site but can see no option to turn the post process tab on.

Thank you so much for sharing and I have couple of questions if you have time;
1. at the first transform (Go to the color tab, set the transform color to 1, and then set the color speed to 0.983.) unfortunately there is no color speed in my apo. does it make a huge difference?
2. I downloaded the Spherical3D plugin as it was mentioned on apophysis offical website. However there is nothing named "spherical3d" in variation tab. Any idea why it did not work?

Cheers

Hi there I will try to answer your questions as best I can:

1. In some versions of Apo, color speed is called also 'symmetry'. But I seriously recommend you download the latest verion of Apophysis 7x by `Xyrus02 . In my opinion, it's the best version of Apo and pretty much the standard for most fractal artists.
2. The plugin most likely didn't work because you need to place it in a special plugin folder. If you download Apophysis 7x, there's an explanation of how to install plugins in the help section of the website . If you don't choose to download 7x, this info might help with installing your plugins. You also need to make sure your version of Apo has 3D capabilities in order to complete the tutorial. That means using either Apophysis 7x or Apophysis 2.08 3D hack.

I really hope this information helped. If you have any further question, please feel free to ask

Well I downloaded Apo 7x and it worked with plugins although there is a tiny problem with the "preview image" at transform editor window. It is pinch black, i can only observe the changes via the main screen. Today I will work on your tutorial hopefully i will blow away the cobwebs. May the aliens be with you .
Cheers

Hmm...that's strange...I've haven't come across that bug before Maybe you could try re-installing Apo or ask someone at Aposhack [link] They always know stuff Anyway, I hope you get it sorted out and enjoy the tutorial
