Description
This will my last invented alien for a while (aside from possible Missu variants) sense I want to do more speculative evolution art. This species I call the Folg. Lifted by hydrogen and methane sacs on top of their main bodies, they stand roughly 22ms and are anchored to the ground by their weighted appendages which they also use to traverse the surface of their home world, a roughly earth-sized planet with a thick atmosphere that lies on the outer edge of its star's habitable zone. Each of their appendages have two digits and three tentacle-like manipulators that are tucked in when not in use. Used together, the digits and the manipulators deliver a powerful grip that is used to constrict and crush prey which is then lifted to their extendable mouths. The gases in their sacs are created from waste products and environmental intact and whenever the Folg need to lower their main bodies, the adjust the pressure of their methane sacs via tubes on either side of their bodies. Though their four eyes focus below them, they possess a "fifth" eye akin to what some reptiles have to detect changes above them. They reproduce sexually with males and females being similar in appearance save for two reproductive tentacles that descend from the main body. These tentacles intertwine to exchange gametes. The diploid cells are released on the ground, merge, and grow into terrestrial polyp that generates several young Folg before expiring. Like terrestrial elephants, the Folg communicate with low frequency sound waves and low grunts. Though sapient and aware of other extraterrestrial races, the Folg are primitive in technological capability and currently have no interest in interstellar travel.
