I wanted the big planet to have more than just one moon so that the small colony is more difficult to find for foreign entities. Actually, there are thought to be a lot of little moons, but showing all of them would overfill the layout of the image I thought

Fewer moons means the remaining moons can be more massive thus hold on to atmospheres better!

originally, I thought it to be a middle large city, built unavoidably by a few (cyborgian? or robotoid?) survivors of a destroyed or overtaken planet, because they had to escape from their homeworld and hide from their mighty enemy ... on a cold and unfriendly, but hidden moon, hoping to be able to strike back one day

Really great job! I'm not sure how this is accomplished, but I can really feel the weight of planets when I look at this. They appear to have mass, instead of feeling weightless like a lot of space art I've seen.

thanks a lot! Yeah, there are a few little tricks about that. Most important is that all elements in the image fit together/influece each other. That means mostly that the colors, shadows, highlights of all planets must look similar and logically correct. Playing around with that kind of stuff is as cool as important I would say

I'd say that you'd only find moon rock and no life forms, rather you would get lifeforms from earth and put it on the moon :d.

The moon is (supposed to be) "planet sized", i.e. one the size of Earth with enough gravity to hold on to an oxygen based atmosphere that could support humanoid based life forms like on "Star Wars" (Yavin IV, Bespin, etc.).
