I found this technique I really like that gives off this choppy flat look. It's basically just chopping sections off with the selection lasso and filling them in.

Also.. it's been a while since I delved into doing these generic fellows. I find it really interesting that each nation has their own set of colours to represent their units. Mostly they range in the dark cool colours.
