Description How many drawings in a storyboarded sequence? Well, here's one. Sequence, that is. At the end of Lilo and Stitch we were cataloging and packing up our story drawings. We got to talking about how thick the piles were. Eventually someone suggested we take a picture of the drawings for one sequence. We used the floor of a large open meeting room in the Florida studio, and brought in a scissor lift as a platform for the photographer. Then we spread out the drawings. We were all surprised just how large an area they covered. Bela Temesvary shot the picture. Then he suggested I sit in the middle of them for posterity.

Now, if you're still reading, bear in mind that this is not just one sequence from the film, but one VERSION of one sequence. Sharp-eyed observers will note that this is the obsolete chase sequence that featured a 747. That version was dropped after September 11. So this entire thing wasn't used. Nor is this the first version of this sequence - I boarded it at least once before this. So this is probably version 2. I boarded it again from scratch at least one more time after this one was scrapped.

Most people board on Cintiq now, but I still do it on paper. It's nice to have original drawings to sit on at the end.

That's really awesome, in more ways than one. Makes me realize I should probably step up my boarding rate just a skosh, just to make sure I'm getting in all the important details.

A person really needs to be disciplined and patient to be able to do this kind of work. When I was younger I thought I wanted to be an animator and work for Disney or Dreamworks, but as I grew I realized that I didn't have the patience and lost interest in projects too easily. Now, I'd rather watch other people's art and create and post my own stuff occasionally when I feel up to it.

I'm still a fan of your work. I like this photo.

this brings me back to my childhood a bit. i always liked lilo and stitch and the emperors new groove better than some of the classics, and its pretty cool to have met, in a way, someone involved in the making of it.

the idea to spread out the drawings was good. the idea to pose on them and snap a picture was even better.

As one of my all-time favorite movies and an aspiring artist, myself, I would -love- a print of this! It's just amazing, and such a keen reminder to all of us of the truly insane amount of work that goes into making a production of this scope. Every time I look at this, I see more... and more... and more! Please consider putting this up as a print on deviantArt!!!

And THANK YOU for an AWESOME production!!!

You should make a pict like this after every animation!! Just for fun!

i still prefer doing things like this old school...digital may be quicker but the loss of tactile sensibilities is evident when telling a story like this

Must take FOREVER to make a single movie and after watching the hardships that can happen in Pixar Story, it must be especially painful when the movie flops.

One sequence? It's like you can never get up from your seat... Holy crap. ;-;
