The year is 2165, medical and technical advancements have progressed to higher levels than ever imagined. Cures for most deadly illnesses have been made and have been used to wipe out their existence. But one fateful day, their need to cure everything had led to their downfall. For years scientists have worked on a official cure for rabies, instead of just a vaccine. A cure to erase the effects on subjects even in late stages of the disease. There were many tests run, most of which failed, but one of which had caused the virus to mutate into a horrific illness. In an attempt to wipe out that failure, they incinerated it, but unfortunately some of it has mutated to become airborne with the smoke, quickly infecting the populace around the lab area. People by the hundreds were rushed to hospitals with excessive fevers, bloodshot eyes, and other symptoms including aggression and insomnia. The doctors tried in vain to help them, but the old vaccine for rabies no longer worked, and quickly these people...changed. They became more animalistic, developing traits of random species of animals, from birds to large cats to rodents, until they were no longer considered human. They were scared and agitated and a majority of them became to hostile and were locked up. Within less than five days, all of those who had turned suddenly became violent and bloodthirsty, attacking and killing all in eyesight. Their skin would start to blister and bubble and rot, and they were impervious to all gunfire except well aimed shots for the head. People feared it was now a apocalypse, of the worst kind. Immediately at hearing the news of the outbreak, the military rushed its scientists to find a cure, gathering up all soldiers who were not scientists or in combat with the creatures to be used for the "research". Of them, one by the name of Serenity King was used to test a newer version of the cure, using dead cells from the disease and a few extra secret antibodies added. This version had been used on others before, with horrific results, but when it was used on her, it quickly transformed her immediately to stage two of the disease, as a King Cobra/Crow mix, an unusual and unseen aspect of mixing species. Deeming it a failure, they attempted to execute her, but she escaped, asking them to spare her, which startled the doctors, as stage two's cant speak, since the transformation to part animal always destroys their vocal cords. She broke out of the facility, causing the generals to send out a multitude of soldiers to find and exterminate her before others found out. You were one of them. It was weeks you spent out in the infected city with your comrades, watching as encounters with infected or with Serenity ending up with more and more dead or infected. Now it was just you and a team of 9 others. After tirelessly searching, you found her for the fourth time, this time at night, a idea provided by you. You walked up, declaring to her that she should just surrender and let them finish her off, so they could go home. "Kill me....?" She crowed, "Kill the one who is the cure? The savior? The controller of the undead? I can SAVE you." You and your team hesitate, but aim your guns at her anyways. Immediately, behind her, you saw the green eyes of the undead she had under her control group up. They shuffled closer. "Are you sure about this...?" She inquired. "WHY NOT?" A soldier behind you yells fiercefully, anger consuming his voice. "Because..." She lowered to the ground, hundreds of eyes staring through the dark at your team. "You REALLY don't want to do this." The soldier who yelled out shot at her, as she smiled, showing her fangs. At that same moment all the infected burst from the dark, snarling and growling as they stabbed claws through the others, pinning them down and ripping through their flesh with horrifying ease. You shot thousands of rounds into the horde, and you turned around to find yourself face to face with Serenity. You bit back a gasp as she wrapped her claws around your throat, pinning you to a wall and lifting you off the ground a few inches. You couldn't breathe, your vision was fading, you could hear muffled screams of your team being slaughtered. You looked into Serenity's eyes, glowing green and dangerous. This monster...the one who killed your wife, was now about to kill you. "Killed your wife...? Is that what they told you?" You froze, staring at her as your vision faded in and out of black and your mind slipped in and out of consciousness. She let go, causing you to hit the ground with a painful thump. You gripped your throat, wheezing. "W..ha..t..? You manage to gasp out. "Those little..." She progressed into some grumbling, looking around at the damage. All your team members were dead, mauled by the infected. Why did she spare you? Why weren't the other infected attacking, why, why, WHY? "Because i told them not to touch you." Serenity was looking at you now, a strange look creased across her face. Worry? Sympathy? Pity? "W..why spare me...but kill the rest...? You mumble. "Well last i checked, im not married to any of those wimps." She gave you a nervous smirk as you stared at her dumbfounded. "I never killed your wife, my love. The military did that. They put me in those labs as a test subject, not a person. And when they failed, I ran for my life, and they LIED to you. They hid all the other deaths by saying that I did it, that I killed those people." She looked sad now. She glanced at you with a slightly suspicious glare. "Now, why didn't you tell your team that you were bit and infected?" Your eyes widened. "How did you know th-" Serenity interrupted, "Because i can hear your thoughts. I can only hear thoughts of people with the disease. Like we are linked or something. I can hear their thoughts for what I guess is the same reason that i can control the fully infected." Shots rang out and she sat up and looked around. "Hide" She whispered, and with that, every infected you saw quickly retreated to a building or behind cover. "And you, come with me." She grabbed your arm and started jogging. What was to happen now, you had no clue, but this... this was just the beginning.
