From a wealthy family, Kithri Thorngale was born. Known for their elemental powers and inate healing, her family held great power in their city.

At 20 years old, she fell in love with Cade Goodbarrell. Cade was a warrior, a fierce protector and her best friend. Though her family didn’t approve of the match, they didn’t stop them. The only thing they asked for in exchange for their blessing was a ten year engagement. If in ten years they were still as in love as the day they met, they would bless the union.

As Kithri’s wedding approached, she continued learning to access her powers, which surprisingly were that of the shadows and not the normal storm sorcery her younger sister and brother inherited from their father. She also did not have much of her mothers healing ability. Though, if she was honest, she didn’t progress very far as she constantly spent any spare minute with Cade. They would explore the coastline and cave systems that bordered their forest homeland, searching for elementals and other magical beings.

One day, they discovered a tiny opening to a cave that they had never noticed before and followed it. They stumbled across a cavern that housed an ancient order, that worshiped a primordial Kraken. This order was small but powerful and surrounded by incredible treasure and magic. They left before they were discovered.

Then the trouble started in their city, when some of the young adults of more influential families began disappearing. Ruling and powerful families became worried and Cade was kept busy as the captain of the city watch. The week before her wedding, Kithri snuck out of her house to see Cade. She entered the house only to find him gone, and the body of a human on the floor. Desperate to find her love, Kithri looked for clues on the corpse. He had a strange tattoo on his wrist, and the only thing of note in his backpack was a map of the Waterdeep. Focused on her search, Kithri failed to notice someone sneaking up from behind and was struck down. . When she awoke, she was bound, blindfolded and gagged on a boat. She could hear the sound of Cade screaming. Kithri was lifted and carried to the side and the mand holding her threatened to through her overboard if Cade didn’t tell him what he wanted to hear. He was after the location of the cult and their treasure! Cade told him to save mean I could do nothing as I heard another beating him.

Some time later, more people boarded, crowing with victory. Kithri could hear the sound of heavy crates being lifted to the deck and her heart sunk. They had found the treasure. Before she realised it, she was being lifted again and thrown overboard. Lighting screamed for Cade, but it was muffled by her gag. . Water rushed over her as she sunk beneath the waves. Kithri choked and struggled until she simply couldn’t anymore. As she drifted, dying, a voice from the deep spoke to her. He offered life in exchange for revenge. Kithri begged him to save Cade but her told her that he was already dead and even he didn’t have the power to restore him to life. But her he could save. The last thing Kithri remembered was him asking “Peace or vengeance child? Only you will be to destroy these people.”

When Kithria woke again, she was washed up on a distant shore. Strange new powers had awoken. She now had a branded tattoo of a kraken seared int her back. She found that she could talk directly to her new patron by focusing on a source of water (which she does almost every day). Their deal was her life and new powers in exchange for revenge on the sacking of his temple, slaying of his cult, and the theft of his treasure, especially an important magical item – though he wouldn’t tell her what. After she had destroyed them, Kithri would no longer be beholden to him, though their pact could continue if she chose to. Kithri declared then that she would avenge them, She would find out whoever had betrayed them, because only Cale and her knew about the treasure, but he must have told someone. All the disappearing people were to find Cade and her, she was sure of it. The only clue she had was the symbol on the dead man in Cades house and the Waterdeep.

Her name is no longer Kithri Thorngale. Her name is Lightning.
