The air was cold, his exhale a puff of steam into the damp dreary day. He smiled to himself with a small breathless chuckle as he vaulted over a picnic bench. The day was young, waiting for him to conquer it as he jumped climbed and crawled through his hometown. A small brick wall threatened to keep him from his destination and in a matter of seconds it was behind him. His feet landing on the soft ground with a thud.

Oh how I love the sound, of the thumps upon the ground.

Everyone asleep forever, only me and the others.

We all know where we belong, chasing daydreams.

He grinned again, his chest on fire and breathing heavy. He was almost there almost at the end. He wanted to make it today. He would make it today, no point in counting yourself out before the race is finished.

The air was still until he moved it, everything quiet until he breathed. Fresh dew upon the grass only disturbed by his trampling feet. He was away from the urban, onto the outskirts of the city. Fallen branches and abandoned cars trying their hardest to keep him back. He wouldn’t let them win, not today.

His feet ached, being pushed to the limit and his mind swam not used to the small amount of oxygen it was reciveing. He couldn’t breathe any faster, his lungs at their limit. Every cold intake burning down to his core. He would make it today though, he had to.

His body wanted to quit, ready to drop, but he couldn’t not yet. Finally there… a bit further now… he could see it. Victory would be today. Vision blurry, eyes watering, mind racing, body aching. Finally, what it was all for.

He had reached the wall. A massive stone structure that had been around before he was ever a thought of the universe. The last few steps were soft and slow. His hand touching the cool stone. He couldn’t climb or run around this wall. It kept him there, trapped, safe they say. What could have happened to build this wall?

We all know where we belong, chasing daydreams of behind the wall

No one goes, no one comes, where we all belong

Behind the wall safe and warm.
