Saburi was born to an unknown father (Sahil) and a kind lioness outside of Mlima, the lioness wasn't too fond of having cubs so she left the poor little one to the care of three elderly lions she had met as a cub herself. From time to time, she would visit him until one day her visits would cease. The elder lions, worried, would only tell him she was on a long mission and should be back shortly. But, they knew such thing was a tall tale, since she had already spoken of not wanting her son, they assumed she had run out.

Not too long after, those elderly lions were coming to their life expectancy and as two had passed, the last took Saburi to a nearby pride and told him to stay here. It was safer for him and they would care for him. The elder lion told him to train, become better and he could one day become one of the greatest lions he could ever be. With that, he would bid him a heartfelt farewell and Saburi was left to gain the trust of new lions of this new pride.
