Description Arsenal VG.33, a French prototype light fighter aircraft under development before the beginning of the Second World War - Colorized

A completed Arsenal VG.33 without gear doors seen at Toulouse-Blagnac airport in June 1940. Note the large radiator housing under the fuselage.

Built by Arsenal de l'Aéronautique, this series of light fighter aircraft would be impressive for the time, however the VG.33 would not see any combat in the skies of France due to delays in production. Only 19 aircraft out of roughly 40 completed had been received by the Armée de l'Air by the 1940 armistice. Two VG.33 would fly in an active unit four days before the armistice and about twelve VG.33 would be captured by the Germans.
