Author's Note: The beginning sequence is one of my favorite aspects of this chapter. Before I get to that, I do enjoy introducing other Kasrkin such as Gabler. Not every notable character has to be in Bloody Platoon, and that'll be true for the remainder of the series. Bloody Platoon will always be our core clique, but as the series expands, especially with new POVs, guest POVs, and even spinoff novels, we'll get extra flavor from different characters.

Now, back to my original point. Barlocke's mortal coil has long departed the story, but the psychic-spiritual fragment persists. Barlocke is a part of Marsh Silas and a part of the story, having ascended to that plain similarly to Carstensen, to an idea. He is a symbol that individual can change, improve, and do more than blindly follow orders and accept complacency, and helping one's fellow man in a more empathetic, compassionate way. He still plays a part, and his intimacy with Marsh Silas continues to be enjoyable to write. It's cool working with characters who are physically absent but also kinda ain't.
