Helios the Sun God early on became the patron of the legions of Cora, supplanting the cruel and rapacious god of war as inevitably as Cora's own armies supplanted the old order. He was proclaimed as Sol Vincens, the Conquering Sun, whose rule over the sky was eternal and thus a fine symbol for the marching men who conquered the world.

Though never a popular figure of worship among the Empire's civilian population, they all knew his iconography and his name, and he was always invoked in the first or second rank of lesser gods after the Creator. When the usurper broke the world and the Creator departed, the first sign of hope (once chaos allowed any hope) was the knowledge that the sun still rose in the east and set in the west, and that the world thus went on.

This was seized upon by M. Illius Drusus, self-proclaimed Imperator of Cora, who proclaimed himself similarly the head of the college of the Sun and thus the natural and rightful claimant to the loyalties of such legions as remained. His marriage to the priestess Elwen established the cult of the Divine Regents formally and in much their modern form; and when their child (the future Drusus II) was proclaimed the son of heaven the Empire itself took the form it follows even now in the east.
