The annoying thing is, Tali was meant to be bi in the original game. For those who know where to look, the animation and audio files for Female Shepard to say in Tali's romance are on the PC disc of ME2.
That just makes the dialogue where the romance would start piss me off, because she talks about linking suits, but if you're female, immediately goes. "And of course I would link suits with you, if we weren't already on a dangerous mission." code for: "I would if you had a penis."

It's more disappointing than if they'd cut that dialogue out altogether.

I know, I was kind of sad that they didn't go through with making Tali romanceable for either Shep in the final game product. Some of the lines she says to femshep are still reminiscent of it too, sounding way too romantic to be "just friendly." I'm a guy so it doesn't really affect me, but I've talked to a lot of girls that really wanted that Tali romance with their femshep.

I can grudgingly chalk it up to her just being a sweetie and really friendly, but yeah, I was still really disappointed.

There were a couple comments that seemed more-than-friendly: "I got better Shepard - I got you". Then when she talks about suit linking and Shepard says suggestively "Wait a minute Tali, are you blushing?" and Tali starts acting all bashful and making excuses. I dunno, when I played femshep it looked like there was something going on there (and was originally intended to be, so they may have left some dialogue there).

Yeah, I think they were both originally supposed to be for either Shep, which makes it even more disappointing that Bioware backed out like that.

It's good that they had Liara romanceable to both, but she's kind of a cop out by Bioware because Asari have no distinguished sex, and therefore have no sexual preference (i.e. "No Fox News, it isn't gay because she's not even a woman, lol....?"). I kind of feel like EA may have had a hand in shooting down the same-sex romances because they are all about selling to the broadest possible audience and are probably worried about "offending people." Which is dumb, because there are plenty of games where you can be gay now (Fable series and EA's own
Dragon Age) where you can be gay and people are still buying the games.

Well there is a pretty large and vocal support of same-sex romances on the Bioware forums. Bioware did a phenomenal job of giving fans what they asked for for ME 2 (the Garrus and Tali romances, for instance), so maybe they'll give in to same-sex romances in future Mass Effect games.
