Description
A good friend of mine recently introduced me to a series of children's books she loved; "The Indian in the Cupboard," about a boy who finds a magic key that he can use to turn plastic toys alive, most notably a small figuring of a Native American. I downloaded the audio books and let me tell you, this series is FANTASTIC. It's wonderfully creative, well written, and the characters are fun and memorable. While I love them all, my favorite has to be Billy "Boo-Hoo" Boone, the Texan cowboy from about 1890.
Boone is just adorable, loud and emotional and known for being prone to crying easily when he hears sad stories, but he's pretty tough and can hold his own in a fight. He can be a bit less than bright on occasion, and he somehow ends up in mortal peril in EVERY SINGLE BOOK (except for the one he isn't in-and in the book before that, he ends up in anger TWICE), but he's a very loyal friend. His favorite things are his hat, his horse, whiskey, and a lovely little lady named Ruby Lou.
The other two people in the picture are Little Bull, the titular Indian (Iroquois tribe, specifically), with whom Boone is a friend, and of course Ruby Lou.

I'm pretty sure there's a movie based on the books. I liked it.
