Do you smooth-out the pencil lines with q-tips or cotton swabs, or are you just that epic with a pencil?

In some areas I use a tool called a tortillon or stump. But I do try to do as much with the pencil first. If I've gone to far I will use a rubber eraser to pull up some of the pencil.

I've tried to use the paper shading tools, but they just don't quite make the best gradation transitions (or maybe I just haven't mastered the art of using them correctly), and the sound of paper against paper is a bit annoying to me.

alright. thanks. im pretty new to this whole "art" thing so im trying to get an idea of how long i would have to work on something to get it to come out like this. Although id prolly have to multiply that time by like 6 but whatever, lol. Anyways, thank you ^^
