Description
Watching my portfolio I can definitely say I'm more of a Lord of the Rings/Dungeons&Dragons kind of guy. However, there are 2 sci-fi movies which had a huge impact on me when I watched them as a kid during the 80s: "Star Wars" (original trilogy) and "Blade Runner". I remember being completely blown away the first time I saw "A New Hope". "Blade Runner", on the other hand, was a bit different. As I watched it over and over again I slowly started to realize the masterpiece it was. What I admire most are the moods...the constant rain and darkness, the blue/green hues, the lonesomeness, the smoke, the juxtaposition of different architectural styles, the soundtrack...everything just brilliant! One might think that some of these aspects would equal discomfort, but they are portrayed in such a romantic way that they become captivating and soothing. So, concluding...this painting is an homage (another one) to this superb movie.
I would love to hear your thoughts and let me know what can be improved and I will certainly take it into consideration and try to update it.

omg! "Blade Runner" - is one of my favorits films. It's really masterpiece, brilliant atmosphere - as visually, as psychologically)
your art is also amazing. The first thought - Blade Ranner! I don't know what can be improved, because I think it's already GREAT!

by the way, why does it look like there are 2 jedi skulking around in the front right-hand corner?

i agree, Blade Runner was and still is a superb movie. i hope they never remake it, because it will completely ruin it.

I'm no good with giving advise in, and surely not in english, but I can say what I think about it.
It is stunning ^^ The colours are really... smooth and giving it that lone feeling, still the streets are not empty. and when you look trough the buildings up into the sky, you see no sky, just another layer of society. I love the way it is compost (if that's the right word ), and think this is truelly wonderfull

What a wonderful painting! I love the colouring and the lighting, particularly the dark atmosphere with only a few sources of light such as the lanterns and the lights from the vehicles. It definitely reminds me of Blade Runner, which I agree, it was definitely a masterpiece! The amount of detail you've put into this is just amazing too, particularly how it really has a futuristic look yet still has some familiar details such as the chinese lanterns and streetlights. Congratulations on the DD, it's definitely well deserved!

Superb, the influences are quite evident in your work, not saying that is a bad thing. The style is quite special, the details on the cityscape are nice, lanterns, batters, pedestrians and public transport. A great piece of art, well done.

Agree on Balde Runner. And you just caught that mood right here. The influence of asian pop culture and art was so overwhelming in bladerunner. I like the lightning.

This is so beautiful, and it actually reminds me of the underground New Earth from Doctor Who.

Hm. My personal reaction:
I don't think you captured Blade Runner here. It's an attractive painting, interesting to the eye, but it's not Blade Runner.
I'd say it looks more like a wealthy Star Fleet world on an early morning after the street cleaner has come and gone, but there's too much order for Blade Runner. The air is too clear. The Chinese Lanterns look like antiseptic holiday decorations put up by a white middle-class mall management. Real China Town always has much more chaos; it always looks like it smells of rotting fish and too many people.
Also. . , there is a great deal of deliberate attention going on in this painting. Attention isn't a bad thing at all, but Blade Runner, I always thought, was about chaos taking over, a descent into nihilism. A *lack* of attention. In your painting, doors are being walked through, control panels consulted, people discussing their plans. Even the dirt looks orderly. It all looks very "on-purpose". Blade Runner, by contrast, was about slow death and madness.
That all being said, I wouldn't change this piece. I'd just do another one and try a new approach if you really want to capture that Ridley Scott vibe.
Just my two cents. I admire your paint skills!
Cheers!

Wow. I've been studying Blade Runner as a set text in English at school. When I clicked this, it was the first thing I thought of. Now looking again, the two fellows in robes remind me strongly of jedi P:
Breathtaking. Amazing work.

I love the way you describe how the dreary aspects of that movie are done in such a way as to become soothing. I've only had the pleasure of seeing it a single time, and that was on T.V., so it was interrupted by commercials, but from what I remember, I'm forced to agree.
Incredible pic, by the way. But it was most definitely you being able to define in words what I felt but couldn't express that lead me to comment.

this is pretty damn awesome
The only thing i see from a quicker look is that the hanging lights look a bit out of place. Reason i think is that the light emanating from them is verry tiny, almost non-existant. The red color on them lacks contrast - atleast compared to the rest of the drawing. Also they are sharper than the rest of the objects, again making them look a bit out of place.
Hope you get what i mean, im a bit bad with explanations and my english isnt always top notch

baha, i KNEW this had something to do with Blade Runner before i read the comments. and yeah, its one of those movies you have to sit on and rewatch to understand its full beauty. one of my favorite movies. the best stuff is like that, subtle and just under the surface. the kinda movie you could fall asleep to or be overly upset by

Very nice, you've captured the feel of Blade Runner nicely. Excellent touch including the chinese lanterns, it goes to show that no matter how far we go technologically, there are always simple things we'll fall back on for comfort.
