Description Being a child of the 80s I grew up watching the Evil Dead movies, John Carpenter's great horror masterpieces, Poltergeist, etc...I had to come up with something with living dead...I hope the 30somethings out there relate to this as I do!

Survival Question no. 1

Why people always try to hide in defenceless and cornered churches?

Somehow it makes me think of children of the corn. Maybe because of the scenery. Very well done! Thumbs up from a 36er

I adore those movies, and nothing beats John Carpenter's earlier films. Think you've managed to capture the spirit of 80's horror here. Good job, Andreas.

I love zombies!

Some of the best of cult classics, George Romero deserves a little recognition too- though he sometimes seems over exposed like Spielberg XD This really does kinda capture the essence of what those were all about deep down, something that was genuinely frightening and kinda cool.

The John Carpenter influences must include In The Mouth of Madness, that's a great one.

Excellent coloring, shadows, and visuals over all. Like the feel this gives off as a creepy "everyone is probably going to die" thing.

HELL YEAH, this is awesome. The 80s offered some truly epic horror. I grew up with Evil Dead, Aliens, Poltergeist, all that great stuff. And no, it didn't warp my mind.

This is an amazing piece of art. Absolutely love it. Yes, I'm a 30-something.

The 80s were an epic decade. Life was good, fashion was bizarre, more people had jobs. I mean we still had good solid production jobs in this country. (this was before the rules changed and they sent production overseas). People expected to retire from the company they started at.

Cities were pretty nasty, we didn't see an urban renewal until the 90s so that's a downside.

Still though, being born in the 70s was cool, growing up in the 80s cooler. We could ride our bikes anywhere we wanted and parents didn't worry. We knew our neighbors.

We were definitely a less litigious society.
We said the pledge to the flag every morning. We were more patriotic than we are now, I think.

We were more physical. Kids were seldom fat, the nation on average was less obese.
We didn't have game systems and played outside most of the time. As the 80s progressed of course we started buying game programs, my dad bought an Intelevision set that played giant cartridge games. 8-bit graphics! hehehe... One of my friends got the first Nintendo that ever came out. I remember it, it gave me a headache.

Nothing was on demand. No cell phones. You always had to make sure to carry coins in case you needed a payphone. TV was 3 stations or if you had cable you got a few extra channels.

Friday night's movie was a thing anticipated, something to get excited about. When the Sunday paper came we'd all hover around the TV Guide to see what movies came on in the week. We'd wait until 8:00 for the movie to start. Mom would make popcorn. It was a big deal. LOL Movie rental was a rare treat that become more common as we got older. My dad used to come home from work and surprise us with cool movies like the ones that inspired this cool painting.

I think entertainment was better. The American attention span was better. We read more books. Watched slower movies. They gave more attention to plot and character development. now it's just all goofy action, like the Avengers movie. Nothing but action scenes, it sucked. But I think the movies from the 40s and 50s were even better than the 80s. Salem's Lot? That was freaking scary. Alfred Hitchcock??? Awesome. Exceedingly awesome. Watch some old black n' white films and be patient with it. Enjoy the slow suspense.

We as a people, the whole culture, didn't scare so easily, weren't so easily offended. We weren't politically correct. We said what we meant more or less. Education was more important to younger people. I think that we matured a bit sooner. I'm told that a frightening percentage of 18 year olds don't know who Adolf Hitler is.

I always thought my dad was so lame for bemoaning the current state of the world. He always talked about how great the 50s and 60s were. Such great times! NOW I understand why he did it cause I do it too. As I age I get frustrated with current culture. Things just seem so diminished. Maybe that's normal as we get older.

I really like the advances we've made though. Medical science has improved, that's a bonus. I finally got rid of my cassettes and have mp3 music now. LOL I like having access to Japanese culture, I get to cosplay even though I'm old enough to be half the kids' mom's age. hahaha... creepy old cosplayer. :-p

What's the 00s and 10s like for young people just starting out? How do you view your culture? What's it like through your eyes?

AnimePop18 In reply to Arakis-angel [2012-08-26 07:03:35 +0000 UTC]

don't turn into one of those skirt chasers hahaha

But the 80s sounds like they were way better than what we got now! The 90s for me was great, games were better, the weather sunny, nowadays, you just sit inside doing nothing because you're not that outdoorsy person anymore or perhaps other things have caught your attention in the past years. Me, I never go outside much anymore because the heat has just gotten worse here and no one likes it except in the winter when things are less "sweatier" LOL. All things were better back then, and there are still some things I miss like my N64 and want to buy a new one. I had recently bought the game boy color with pokemon yellow version special pikachu edition.

And Japanese culture has always been awesome, but its more Chinese stuff than Japanese stuff for us. I have a watch with Chinese written on it, and its so pretty but a bit too pink LOL. And I think more people had expected the age to advance a bit too much, some things are at ridiculous prices now.
