Description
In a land far far FAR AWAY....... from my mind... I came across this film on television, and decided to keep it playing so I could have some noise while I did other stuff. I discovered that the jokes were actually pretty good, but the story became boring fast, the music was nauseating to hear, and whenever I turned my eye toward the visual design... well... well you know. How could I possibly stand witnessing this kind of film?? I have VERY strong patience and tolerance!
I DID get me thinking how it would've looked in a smoother, traditional style though. And here you go.
EDIT: The rabbit was the most fun. He turned out to resemble his CGI counterpart the most here. Here's a short clip to compare him with (SPOILERS): [link]

That one in the bottom right corner of Boingo laughing like the maniac he is, that's the best bit.

All I think when I see this is the lines:
Wolf: "...See, Twitchy? You get lemons, you make lemonade. (Now they're in the sewers)...And, then that lemonade goes bitter, and turns to pigswell. Never trust a bunny with directions, Twitchy."
Twitchy: "All clear, boss. NEVER TRUST a BUNNY!"
Wolf: "Well, at least on the bright side my clothes finally dried off (before falling into a deeper water-hole)...Why can't I just write movie reviews. We are in a pickle, I blame myself. That bunny was worthless, not to mention he wrote the directions on an easter egg... (looking at the egg with irritance) which is very hard to read."
Forgive me, I love quoting movies on other people's work.

I actually still enjoy the movie, not so good animation but it had to start somewhere. It was decent, the characters and jokes were funny as well. I put it in my favorite movie bin (it was a good film and the songs weren't so bad). I like your designs thougn, especially on Granny (her hair was too long!). It's very fun to look at your style.

Oh man, I just finished watching the movie this afternoon and I stumble upon this great piece of art. I suppose Red could use a bit more detail (but how would I know, lol) since her body looks a little bit... err... plain. I like her action pose though.

I actually like Hoodwinked... One of the very first films I saw at the cinema whilst out with friends only (and not parents)
I do agree that the animation is...well... ok, so if was OK at first but then CGI films became WAY more advanced... I still like the film tho...
And yehhh I do agree that the film will have looked better in a more traditional look

Hey, nice fanart. Red and Boingo look great.
Personally I really liked this movie... though I guess I could be kindof biased, because my bro is friends with one of the guys who worked on this. XD;;

I hear that. I'm sort of biased with some few television shows because I know people who worked on those. It's hard to be a good judge when you're associated with things.

While I liked the movie myself, I agree this would have worked so much better in 2D - with this style in mind, surprise surprise! The wolf especially looks cooler here

One word. Boingo. Frickin' Boingo. I love how you portrayed him here, the little bundle of awesomeness that he is.

I haven't seen the film (for most of the reasons mentioned above), but I must say that these designs look much more palatable than the originals. I think I might actually watch the movie if it looked like this!

That movie did bother me; none of the character design was consistent. Nice redesign, though.

also, your design for red is way better than the movies. it seems the 2 central characters - red and the wolf - were actually the weakest designs of the entire film.

the two things that killed that movie were some downright awful animation and red riding hood's 2 musical sequences. if those two things were fixed, it actually would have been a really solid film for theaters. and yes, it was in theaters. in fact, i saw it opening weekend. don't ask.

I actually thought her first musical number to start off the film was pretty good. It set the tone for her own story. But I still empathize with you.

Yeah, the title doesn't even make any sense ('Red Is Blue'. Ben Folds is good, but he can't write his own music, in my opinion.

Man, now this is what it should have looked like, should have been traditional 2D animation. It would have been so much better. You truly did an amazing job, the designs look so much better here.

I didn't care much for that movie. It gave the impression that it was just sort of thrown together and didn't have much thought or heart put into it. The squirrel freaked me out! Seeing it in your style makes it much more appealing.

God, how I hate cheap computer animated films. After Final Fantasy: Advent Children came out, all movies should look like that! But these drawings are awesome, the old lady and the rabbits rock! The evil rabbit on the lower right-hand side is the best. How do you get your lines to look so crisp? Is that done in marker or on the computer?

andrewk In reply to LordoftheBling-XXL [2008-08-29 02:21:03 +0000 UTC]
In this case, it was done completely in Photoshop. I used the 5 pixel-wide brush. The rabbit drawings (his name is Boingo) were drawn larger than here, so I shrinked them, which is why the lines look thinner than the others.

Cool, are you using a tablet? Because when I try using the pencil tool in Photoshop with a regular mouse it looks like a 5 year old did it I can't get the same gesture lines like I do with a pencil and paper, then again Im very computer illiterate.

These are great. I know how you feel, it can be hard working on a design for a character that's supposed to be really simple and cute like Red sometimes. I never saw this movie and never wanted to, but regardless these are very nicely done.
