Description
well this is a 3 way collabo between my lineart and colouring, and the graff stylings of AltOne and 30DZbest friends make the best collaborations i guess.
its a rollerblading piece so i tried to get the fisheye lens distortion going on - its a bitch tho and i won't be trying it again for a while.
also, i didn't really include any definable light source cause i lit it for design not realism....its not big and its not clever i know :/
anyways, im out.

...ay, yeah i've been rolling for a grip, about 9 years (i'm 25 now)...
...rightnow i'm riding salomon teams (a bit old but still sick) w/ wide body, able frames (white), and farmer 58's (4-flat)...

thats sick. ive been rolling since 97, but ive been injured for like 5 years which im only just clearing up.
i got TRS detail version2 but i hate them. im after some Valos now, i skated on some when i met up with Julio and they are so nice but the stock frames are wack right now. they are working on their own tho which is gonna be ace. how do them Ables hold up?

...aw man, able's are awesome! they're built super tough, there's a decent groove right out of the box, and they're beefed up at the bottom for seths...
...now, you dont' have as much room to grind as some frames, but i still think they're great...

thanks man
i will do it again, its just that fisheye distortion was a bitch to draw....but its a stylistic thing i wanted to use because of it being so common in skate-videos.
and yeah, these are the newest Razors. the Shima 5s. Razors are good skates but i would sugest you check out Valo [link] they are really comfortable, they slide well too and are really supportive and responsive. plus they look great with anything you wear haha
i met the guys from Valo when they were over so i got the rundown on all the latest stuff...great stuff.

Dude that fisheye effect is sweet
valo.. wow, jon julio is in the team.. but that thing costs too much for me, its like $270 Thanks for the info though, looks like a great brand. I want any Razors right now, i had the cream II and loved em so Im guessing the newer ones are better.

hehe Julio OWNS the brand
but yeah, Valos are pretty expensive...they have a boot only option coming out soon tho which is cheaper, but only if you still have frames and wheels.
the latest razors are the Shima 5s and they look pretty sick, razors are the king for torque tricks aswell.

i love the ipod chillin in the fore
the design on the figure i love, but the background seems trite. of course, it's a worthless saying as originality in art was bred out of of existence aeons ago.
you (all of you) did this style justice however... trippin.

AndrewTunney In reply to sparkpenguin [2005-04-07 09:11:12 +0000 UTC]
thankyou.
but its not like we were working in A style here...the intent wasn't to say 'lets all do STREET!' because this is how we all work to begin with and this is the kind of environment we live in. it might be stylised but this is real life to us. you make it sound more contrived than it actually was. we just took all of our styles, which are born in street culture and then put them together in one piece.
i disagree with you on the lack of originality in art because there is tons of it, you just need to know where to look.
and if its worthless saying its trite then why did you say it?

sparkpenguin In reply to AndrewTunney [2005-04-07 18:33:03 +0000 UTC]
i sort of already had it typed out and still felt it was important, i was just preparing for the contradiction i was about to make. and i disagree with you on the originality of art. it's so diverse, that it is all like in some way or another; and so like, that you can find diversity in any context you wish.
consider this: perhaps "the street" compelled a handful of artists to create works such as this one say... twenty years ago... and that stylization rose to the forefront of what is defined "street." but what if the next guy who has never seen this style of art (just imagine; and maybe skip back a couple decades perhaps the street compels him toward... something entirely different? something with no color; something with bright, or muddy colors; no lines, just form-- a specific impression, however -- this one pictured-- has survived any competing urban ambiences in art and defined the city to artists who favor the message and wish to replicate it.
what i'm trying to say is that this is not what the cities say to artists; because no two people would have such likened perceptions of as broad an idea as city life. rather, it is what past artists' impressions on urban life say to current artists who proliferate the style known as "street." the same happened with every other definitive genre of art.
that, of course, is just what i think... regardless of what any book says.

AndrewTunney In reply to sparkpenguin [2005-04-08 11:56:20 +0000 UTC]
first of all you shouldn't disregard books.
secondly, i don't make the claim that i am a 'street artist' because i don't really like making those kind of distinctions between one type of art or another, but my life and the culture im involved in definately does come under the 'street' banner.
if you're saying that in all forms of art there are institutions that arise and influence what ppl consider a certain style of art to be and even what it SHOULD be then yes, you're right. but that doesn't mean there is no progression or diversity. there are millions of ppl who think that the sum total of street art and graffiti is making wildstyle characters and throwups and drawing characters in hoodies and shelltoes - and thats all they will ever do. there are always ppl who want to just repeat work they've seen no matter what style it is. is there a sterotypical street style? yes, but its grossly unfair and frankly quite uninformed to think that there isn't anyone else involved who doesn't push these limits.
if, like you say, you look at someone from 20 years ago - lets take Futura2000. the work he has produced over his career is so diverse and goes so far away from the typical 'writing on walls' definition of graffiti that he alone shows the possibilities of this area. His work often is just a specific impression, or a mood using both muddy and brignt colours. THEN contrast him with the politcal and provactive work of Banksy and him in turn with the 123Klan where 'style is the message' and you've got 3 completely different approaches.
so the city does say different things to artists and they do indeed say different things back, but like i said originally you have to know where to look.

you took the indigance you felt from what i originally said and furthered it by virtue of TOTALLY DISREGARDING several important statements i made on your behalf. forget it actually.
onward with the imaginary battle; the view from the cross is breathtaking, isn't it.

dude, what are you on about? i wasn't fighting you at all. sure, i disagree with you but all i did was put forward my point of view with some examples ... there's no venom in that. im not even responsible for the section of the piece you don't like and even if i was i wouldn't have any beef. not only is it part of my job to take regular criticism but its part of life.
im sorry if you feel im having a go at you but you've really got the wrong end of the stick.
