Description
When I were a wee nipper I went to see Star Wars at the cinema ( yeah I am that old ) and, as with most people of my generation who first saw it, I was hooked ( although I am not an expert in the wider universe of SW... stopped with Return Of The Jedi with me really) The earliest I can remember drawing anything was drawing scenes from Star Wars, and in particular Darth Vader and his Tie Fighter. I know I am not alone in saying this, but I would credit Star Wars as being the reason I got into drawing. So this is a dedication to good old DarthWIP - [link]

Thanks for looking
* I may try and do a tutorial on how to get that reflective smooth surface of the helmet at some point, as it is easier than it looks and can look really effective.
*added the codpiece. I intentionally left it out originally but it only served to make that belt look too high.
Sorry, watermark added due to art theft and prints being sold on ebay. I will try and get around to adding my own.

Wow! That is Star Wars dedication! I used to have a life size cardboard cut out I obtained from a local video store...it got eaten by my friends dog though which broke my heart!

oh that totally sucks! My son use to work at a video store just to get those goodies. He has his living room set up like a theatre now. It doesn't help, him being an artist. When he stopped working for the video store he then became a projectionist at a local theatre just so he could be privy to the new movies.

Truly amazing however it does seems a bit odd when you see how high up the belt is place, makes it seem like he has really long legs. However it is still an amazing piece that i belive is a truly perfect darth vader

Yeah I had left out the cod piece on the original, in hindsight it made the belt seem too high ( it is very high up in all the reference photos I have seen ) So I re instated it...even though I always thought it looked a bit silly on him lol. He still is taller in this but that is just artistic license on my part
Thanks

Could I ask how you did the background of this?

yeah I made it all smokey looking then added some white lines which I then blurred slightly, duplicated that layer then set it to overlay to give it a bit more light

I love how quiet and somber this picture feels. It's amazing how much emotion you can get out of a masked character. Sometimes Vader can be badass and full of rage and then on the other end of the spectrum he can convey a sense of sadness.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, heh.

wow this is a great piece.. the helmet is very well done..
i think i probably would of liked to see better detail on the cape and the rest of his clothes.. personally i find they look a little plain in comparison to the detail on the helmet.. maybe its just me..
