Anime Eyes IThis is my eyes reference from a variety of anime/manga works.
These eyes were inspired by these mangas:
Vampire Knight - Yuki C.
Backstage Prince - Akari
Absolute Boyfriend - Riiko
Nana - Nana O.

Practice, practice, practice!
The solution is better shading everytime you draw
And try shading/attempting to for almost anything you draw.
It helps you give a feel of 3-D,
so you get used to it.

what type of utensil did you use to draw these?

The ol' 0.7 led mechanical pencil and my trusty Faber Castell eraser for good measure.

I picked up a pencil, some manga books, for referencing, and basically tried my best in drawing a similar styled eye style of the certain manga.
