For those with a discerning eye, amidst the chaos of the battlefield, one could recognize the swooping, gliding flight pattern of Captain Basalt. It was a most beautiful display of a courtship dance, right down to the effortless dives she performed as she slashed her foes open.

Some would later argue that to perverse a dance meant for love and use it for bloodshed was blasphemous, that the young captain mocked something nearly sacred to use for something so vile as murder. But what small mind could ever comprehend her intention? That she was indeed honoring this dance of courtship?

For Captain Basalt was courting death, and to its talons she offered her dance and her enemies.

I don't doubt that among the many things that Basalt was taught during her youth, performing a proper mating dance was one of them. It only made sense that even in this, she should excel; that those who would ever have the nerve to court her should in the very least dance as well as her. Basalt personally saw such agile flight techniques to be wasted for something as "mundane" as courtship, and so she applied her dance on the battlefield.

She got a lot of criticisms for using such a dance at first, but the more enemies she took down, the less avus openly chided her for it. When questioned by a fellow soldier as to why she'd use a dance of love to kill her enemies, she famously replied: "Am I not showing my love for my kingdom by defending it from its enemies and expanding its reach across the land? Why shouldn't I dance? Let death be my witness to my love. I hope it blushes from all the offerings I send it."
