Along with its needed effects, it may cause some unwanted symptoms. Common side effects are usually mild and include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, weakness, dry mouth, weight changes, and more. 

To avoid potential adverse symptoms, doctors prescribe the lowest dosage of Amitriptyline that can improve a certain condition, and then they gradually increase the dosage. This approach also helps to avoid an overdose. In fact, Amitriptyline is particularly toxic in overdose. And obviously, if it occurs, a person needs medical help.
