This is a redesign of the story Jack and the Beanstalk, but with a sci-fi tone.

Jack and his mom live in a scrapyard, but one day a small merchant riding a mechanical hat visits them. Jack uses the last of the family money to buy 3 small crystal shards. He uses these to power a door that opens into a secretive high-tech city. Inside, guarded by a large metal robot, is a powerful crystal that will surely make Jack rich if he manages to steal it.
