Description

"Plumskull" 11x14" oil on linen (Raymar) panel in an artist-made frame.

The frame is made of scrapwood oak (stair treads and a discarded kitchen cabinet door). Frame and moulding dimensions were computed using an online picture frame calculator. The inner moulding, which was cut on a shaper with a Β½ inch double bullnose router bit, acts as the frame’s rabbet. The oak corner frame has 56 miter cuts and it was painted and distressed to create an aged appearance.

Cassetta frames - ubiquitous in Italy during the 16th and 17th centuries - are defined by a flat, inner section called a frieze which is bordered by raised mouldings on the inner and outer edges and hand-painted pastiglia details in the corners.

I used Montana cans spray paint (gold, blue).
