Description
Serena sort of felt miserable all the time. She figured it was due to her ghost typing. She sort of expected to always feel miserable no matter what and that she couldn’t do anything about it just because… Why should she?
She observed those that were happy all the time and thought they were idiots. Blind, useless idiots who had nothing better to do but smile and laugh at absolutely nothing. They made her sick. She wanted nothing more than to just leave this ranch and never go back. But, her tech crew prevented her from doing so. She liked tech crew. What she worked with didn’t smile or laugh because it was simply technology. Cold, hard, lifeless technology. It kind of reminded her of herself.
Because of her attitude towards everything, Serena had no friends. They would all be too cheerful for her anyway. But one day, a bug named Actias flew into her face. She finally was able to smack him off after some trouble. She was almost about to step on him when he pleaded for her to stop.
“Listen, Serena! I know that you aren’t the happiest person in the world but I wanted to try and change that! Is that so wrong?” he said.
“Yes,” she said blandly. “Leave me alone.”
“I don’t want to! You deserve happiness just like the rest of us!”
“What if I don’t care about happiness?” she asked with her hands on her hips
“Maybe you’ve never even felt happiness…” Actias said quietly. “Listen, there is an amusement park not too far away, would you mind if I took you there?”
“Yes, I would mind… but I feel like you won’t leave me alone until I go there. So yes, we can go to the stupid park.”
“Oh yay! Come on!” Actias said, dragging her by one of her hands. She rolled her eyes in regret. She knew this was a bad idea.
They arrived at the park to find it bustling with people, which immediately annoyed Serena. Actias was quick to drag her to one of the games. “This is called ring toss!” Actias said. He slammed down some tickets to the vendor and was given a small basket of rings.
“It’s kind of really hard though,” he said, tossing a ring to demonstrate. The ring bounced on the glass bottles a few times before landing on the floor.
Serena sighed at the disgraceful attempts at trying to land a ring on the bottle. Her patience ran out quickly, so she used her psychic powers to get one of Actias’ rings on a bottle. The vendor congratulated them as he took a large stuffed bear from the ceiling and gave it to Serena. “There. Happy?” she asked Actias.
“Yeah! Are you?”
“No.”
But she looked at the bear. She hated to admit it but it did look kind of… cute. It was almost like Serena didn’t want to burn it with fire. Her ears perked up at a sound. It was screaming. But not screaming of anguish or pain, like she was comfortably familiar with. No, they were screams of… joy. How was that possible?
“Where is that coming from?” she asked Actias.
“Oh! That’s the Whirlacoaster, one of the most intense roller coasters around. You sure you want to go on that?”
Serena nodded. She had to see how such a strange phenomenon was possible. The two maneuvered through the crowd to get to the coaster. Serena had never heard of a roller coaster before, it must have been a very enhanced piece of technology.
The two waited in the line for a very long time. Serena would have grown frustrated, but she was too eager to see what this thing was.
They reached the beginning of the line as they both were seated into the car. Serena felt something weird… it was different from the constant misery she was used to. Her pulse was racing, her palms were sweating…
“Actias? I am feeling weird… my heart is racing… I have a weird feeling in my stomach…” Serena added.
“That means you’re excited! That’s almost what happiness feels like!” he said as the car went up the very very tall track. “Do you feel happy?” he asked.
“N-no, I feel… TERRIFIED!” she screamed as the car tore down the track, into loopty loops, and went upside down at 50 mph.
When the ride finally pulled in for a stop, Actias and Serena got off the ride. Serena got off a little more shakily than Actias did.
“Uhm… Serena, are you… mad at me?” Actias asked.
Serena didn’t say anything for a good minute. Then she started to laugh. She laughed so much that she fell to the ground. “No! That was amazing! I feel so… so…”
“Happy?” Actias asked.
“Yes! Let’s do that again! I want to do this forever!” Serena said. She gave Actias a tight hug and dragged him back to the start of the line of the ride. The two spent the rest of the day exploring the rest of the park, having a great time.
At the end of the day, the two walked home in near silence, tired from the exciting things that happened that day.
“Actias… thank you. That was the most fun i have ever had. If it weren’t for you, I’d still be miserable.”
“Oh, it was no problem, I couldn’t stand seeing you all sad,” he said with a bit of a blush. Without warning Serena picked him up and gave him a kiss.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” she said, placing him back on the ground before going to her room.
Actias stood red-faced as she turned in. He smiled to himself all the way back to his room, eagerly looking forward to tomorrow.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
