Description
Persephone hated one thing about her annual visits aboveground: her mother. She hated her mother’s constant scorn, constant backhanded compliments, constant controlling nature, everything. Demeter hated that she was independent, so she made it glaringly obvious she hated her.
She hated being treated like a child, like someone to brush off because she was a girl or because she was “just Demeter’s daughter.” She wasn’t her own person up here, and she never had been. And she loathed it. She loathed it with every fiber of her immortal body.
She wasn’t listened to, she wasn’t treated as equal, it took several years before they all even respectfully acknowledged her new name and even then it was only because she stabbed someone three times in the stomach when they didn’t.
On the surface, she was nobody.
But it was still the surface. It was still summer.
And at her core, Persephone was a summer goddess.
So every time, she’d always walk the gardens and fields. Whether they were on Olympus or the mortal world, she’d visit, sometimes under the guise of a mortal girl named Melinda.
She loved the summer. She loved everything about it. Regardless of how insufferable her mother was, she could handle it because she was summer.
