Description “Alright then. You're with me Tux. Let's go get our base ready." The two dragons worked for the next half hour building a simple fort out of snow. Building a tall mound straight out from a fallen tree, they smoothed it out and dug a hole through the base of it for Troi's blowgun. Drex would glance at his siblings' progress with their fort every once in a while. The design they had gone with was more like an open ended box. Its main fortification wrapped around both dragons with very little room to spare. In no-time, both bases were finished. The red and black dragons retreated behind the wall and quickly produced a stockpile of snowballs. Satisfied, Drex sighed and stretched before moving to the spotter's post. He looked through the hole they'd carved in the wall, poked a talon through it a couple times, and then checked to see if his view had improved. Once he was satisfied, he looked down at Troi. "I wonder if Fliz and Vliticus are ready yet." Troi shrugged and peered at the wall in front of him. He then stood to yell over it. "Are you guyth ready to get therved!" They heard Fliz holler from her side of the clearing, "What?" "I thaid, are you ready to get th....!" Just then a snowball struck the front of his muzzle and splattered over it. The black dragon involuntarily caught several pieces of it on his tongue. He instinctively reared back, closing his eyes as he blew bits of snow out of his nose. Troi already knew where it had come from. "Hey Vliticuth! Try that again you thcaley...!"
Splat!
“Alright, you athked for...!"
Splat!
Troi shook the snow off his face and prepared to taunt the yellow dragon again, but was shoved out of the way under Drex's wing. "For God's sake, get your head down!", Drex growled before peering out of the small hole on his side. They could hear his siblings laughing in the other fort. Troi quickly refocused on the task at hand, patiently waiting for a shot. As soon as he caught a glimpse of Vliticus, the black dragon blew into the pipe. Vliticus yelped and lept away from the hole as a small chunk of snow splattered over the end of his nose. Drex quickly looked at Troi before returning his attention to the other fort, a wide grin spreading on his face. "Nice one Tux!" He cackled and gave Troi a congratulatory pat on the back. "Yeah! That was a pretty good shot! I wonder if you could try it again!", Vliticus shouted across the clearing. Troi started to reload but was signaled to stop. "Not with that. Come over here, carefully." Drex moved out of the way so Troi could take his place. The black dragon peaked through the little hole in their snow fort and saw the tip of his friend's wing raised in the air. Creeping closer, Drex whispered in Troi's ear. "He did this before. We goaded Fliz into blowing frost at his wing and then put some snow in her mouth. I think they're expecting us to fall for it this time." "Tho what'th the plan?", Troi whispered back. "Simple, we're falling for it. But we're gonna make them wait." Several minutes went by in silence after that. They watched the tip of the wing begin to lower behind the other fort before springing back up again. "Come on now! Do something!", Vliticus shouted. Drex had taken Troi's spot at the blowgun hole. He was watching and waiting for a specific que from the opposing team. Some movement finally caught his eye. The long pipe his brother used as a blowgun suddenly lifted away from being trained in their direction. This meant only one thing. It's other end was laying on the ground. The red dragon whipped his head away from the hole and whispered harshly at Troi. "Now!" Troi poked his head over the wall and released a small burst of freezing fog at the wing tip. He watched with gleeful satisfaction as it solidified into a cluster of icicles on the wing surface. A hushed conversation at that moment between Fliz and Vliticus was abruptly ended and the wing disappeared behind the wall again. Giggling slightly, Troi ducked out of the way when Fliz shot a cloud of frost at him. The cloud just barely caught the black dragon on the ear, but he paid no attention to it. "I hope that got you!", Fliz growled after him. "Don't think we won't retaliate! Both of you are in serious trouble now!" Drex had reclaimed his position as spotter by now. Temporarily forgetting the risk he was taking, he raised his head over the wall of the fort. "I'm not in trouble, I a...!" The red dragon jerked back when a cloud of fog burst over him. He lowered his head and coughed some ice out of his mouth. A big cloud of steam wafted into the air as the rest of it quickly melted, and he gave Troi a sheepish little smile. "That would explain a lot actually." Troi looked at him questioningly, but shrugged. By now the clearing was quiet once again. The two dragons settled into their respective posts and waited for something to happen. After a minute, Drex decided to get a better view of what was going on. He peaked over the top of their fort and quickly ducked back down, barely avoiding a snowball that whizzed over his head. "Looks like I won't try that again. Vliti has us covered pretty well." Troi grabbed some snow and pushed it into the end of the metal pipe with a grin. "I can ficth that." He slid it through the small gap in their wall and carefully took aim. A cloud of frost suddenly blew in around the pipe. "Theriouthly?" The red dragon glanced at his teammate with intrigue. "That's new. Fliz never tried anything like that before." Troi sat up and pointed at the blowgun with a growl. "She frothe the end of the pipe shut." Without hesitation, he pulled the pipe back inside and started to pick through the chunk of ice that plugged the end of it. In the meantime, Drex lobbed a couple snowballs over the wall. One of them flew into the other fort and splattered on Fliz, catching her by surprise. The last small pieces of ice were removed from the pipe and Troi slid it back through the hole. Again he lined up his shot before taking a breath. A quick blast of air through the pipe sent the clump of snow flying. It crammed itself into the pipe Vliticus held, warranting astonishment from Drex. "Woah! Nice shot!" Troi beamed as his tongue slid out the side of his mouth. He pulled his pipe back into the fort and shouted through the hole. "There'th thomething th-tuck in your gun guyth!" Vliticus growled in frustration as he tried to remove the compounded snowballs. "You two are such cheaters!", Fliz barked across the clearing. Drex chuckled to himself and retorted wittingly, "You did it first!" There was a low pop and rush of air, followed by a groan from Vliticus. "Thoundth like he thucked it out," Troi noted, "...and all that cold feeling went to hith head." "Yep, he's down for a bit. Now we'll only have Sis to worry about." said Drex with anticipation. They could see enough through the hole in the other fort to tell that the two dragons inside had traded places. “I’m gonna try thomething. Thith might not work, but we’ll thee.” Troi set his blowgun aside behind the wall and peered out through his hole. In the other fort, he could see Fliz getting ready to lay down in Vliticus’s place. He would have to time this shot perfectly. The black dragon took a breath and sent a cloud of frost towards the other fort. Drex quickly pressed his eye against the hole in his own wall to see how this tactic would play out. His sister’s head suddenly appeared in the hole, and jerked when the cloud of frost solidified over her muzzle. He looked down at Troi laughing and winked approvingly. “Got her! Nice timing there dude! That’ll keep her busy for a little bit.” “How’th that for froth-t in the fathe?” Troi chuckled, standing. “Perfect Tux. You gave her a taste of her own medicine.” Troi suddenly felt a blast of cold air around one of his legs. He leapt out of the way, but found that he was too late. The fur around his front leg was already incased in a cluster of icicles. Drex’s expression turned to one of annoyance as smoke trailed from his nostrils. “Not out of it for very long it seems.” He clawed some snow off the ground and tossed it at the other fort angrily. “Oy! Give us some time to celebrate!” Fliz shouted something back at them, but Drex didn’t pay any attention to it. Instead, he looked at Troi and shrugged. “The nerve of some dragons, huh?” “Theriuthly.” He was about to peer through his hole again when a little burst of snow shot out of it. The red dragon stared at the wall in disbelief, beginning to growl louder and louder. “Well we’re blind. You’ll have to be lookout until I get a new hole opened up.” Troi nodded and settled into watching the other fort, immediately getting a face full of snow. Without warning, clumps of snow peppered the side of their fort like a hailstorm. Troi yelped and squirmed as he was struck several more times. Drex grabbed the black dragon and hurriedly yanked him to the side of the fort that was better protected. “Looks like Vliticus is back in action.” A little burst of air rippled through Troi’s fur as he wiped some snow out of it. He made sure he wasn’t going to be pelted again before returning to his position. The black dragon looked up from reloading his blowgun when Drex took a seat next to him. “They’re starting to get more aggressive about their tactics. We can’t simply strike back with one shot this time.” “Tho, I’ll do like they did. I might be juth-t ath fath-t ath Vliticuth.” The red dragon shook his head at the suggestion. “I’ve got a better idea. Scoot over.” He laid down next to Troi so that they both had a view through the hole. The red dragon studied his teammate a moment. “Take a look at my brother’s position. Do you think you can freeze the hole shut in their wall?” Troi focused in on the gap his friend had been shooting through ever since they started playing. “I can thertainly try.” The black dragon wriggled a little ways beneath his own fortification and opened his mouth wide. The clearing beyond it quickly vanished behind a billowing cloud of fog. It wasn’t easy to see if anything was happening. The air pouring from Troi’s mouth efficiently carried his freezing mist into the other fort, but was it having the desired affect? He suddenly screeched in shock and scrambled backward, coughing bits of snow out of his mouth. “That’s not possible!” Drex exclaimed, “How could they see us? You had the whole fort shrou-Oof!” He moved to look through the hole himself and was struck in the face with more snow. A large chunk slid down into his eye, causing the red dragon to vigorously shake his head from side to side to dislodge it. He glanced at Troi who was still spitting out snow and made his decision. Drex propped himself up against the wall so he could see over it. He then extended his wings and held them up for his brother and sister. “You got us! We’re done guys! We surrender!”
