Well when I was a kid he was basically the bad guy to me. Of course I was 7 when he was introduced.

Not necessarily. Wario is more greedy and selfish than he is evil. It's rare he's actually being villainous. He's usually just out to make a quick buck.

Yeah well I remember when he came out. To me he was always Mario's evil twin. I mean hell they gave him his own game series. And then came Waluigi which I think was like two years ago or something.

Wario's creator Hiroji Kiyotake was asked if Wario was a full on "bad guy" and he responded that Wario was an anti-hero, stating that "Wario will ally himself with Mario when the consequences call for it, but being the famous plumbers more naive and thick-headed cousin, he usually only does things his way and only wants to accomplish his goals".
