In CY-904, the Vadari Observation Site was set up to analyze distant stars for potential mining operations. Planetary Transit, Doppler Spectroscopy, Infrared Imaging, and many more discovery methods were utilized to find ideal metal-rich stars and the worlds they hosted.

The twenty-sixth star system to be analyzed appeared less than promising. Only four planets, two giants and two small worlds, orbited a white dwarf binary. However, Federation agencies soon took interest in the received data once radial velocity measurements were not adding up; the smaller giant's mass was dominated by ices and rock instead of hydrogen. As well, the system's age was placed at 13.1 billion years, far older than any previously-charted star system.

Once robotic exploration was initiated, the first giant's composition was analyzed: The upper atmosphere had been blown away far in the ancient past. The second gas giant, farthest of the four worlds, did not share this condition.

The third planet in the system was next in line. A small, barren rock, its silicate composition was of minor note. While careful measurements were taken, the exploration of the planet was over as hastily as it began.

The second planet, on the other side of the system at that moment, was an oddity beyond expectation. A thick atmosphere, warmed by the tidal forces of a nearby moon, supported vast forests of alien trees and fungi; deep under the cool oceans swam thousands of crustacean-like beings. At the age of 8.6 billion years, life on the planet could not have possibly thrived for so long, but there it was.

Oldest of all lifeboats known, VOS-026.02 has earned the unofficial moniker "Genesis".
