Description Made for Prompt 4: Campfire Nights - Diana gets some advice from the camp counselors.
_____
[WC - 903]

Diana paced, the cool night air a welcome respite after another long day in the sun. She'd been doing a decent job at being careful during the day, reapplying sunscreen so as not to get burned, and drinking extra water to prevent dehydration. It felt a little bit rewarding to be so responsible, but then again it was just one aspect of life where she felt as if she had some semblance of control, and that in itself was comforting. And yet there was something on her mind that pulled at her, each day amidst the fun and enjoyment of camp. And that was her egg. The sunset-colored egg she'd received from the merchant, and had cared for day after day since then. It had been about two months now, right? Probably more. And while she could feel its warmth and occasionally some movement, it had yet to hatch.

It seemed as though everyone else who had been giving one of these eggs had already hatched it into a forever companion. Her dear friend Trent had two, even! But as cute as Tango and Whiskey were, it wasn't the same as holding a pokemon of her very own in her arms. It just wasn't...
She didn't know why it was taking so long! She was doing her best to be a good caretaker- a good parent! Seeing some of the tenants here, like Ilya, who treated his beloved Drago and Deluca as if they were children, she wanted to have that too! To prove that she could look after a sweet little pokemon of her own! Prove... to whom though? To herself, maybe? Her brother? She didn't know. Deeper than that, she longed for the companionship and friendship that a darling little hatchling was sure to bring. But what if it never came?

This evening, Diana was feeling particularly worried over it all, and stood away from the campfires and company, looking at the sky and trees, holding the warm egg securely. Just a beat of quiet near the treeline, breathing in the night atmosphere.
"Don't you want to meet me..? What's wrong? Why don't you hatch?" she says to the little egg, rubbing it with one hand. "I.. Want to meet you,"
She bows her head just a little, trying not to think of how alone she often felt. She missed her dad, and after seeing that vision of her mother the previous month, she felt so.. lost. Even with Damien beside her, she felt guilty. It was her fault he was here at all, and not back home, living his life. What if the mysterious egg didn't want to hatch because it hated her..?

She's pulled from her thoughts by the sound of footsteps, and looks up to see the two camp counselors, Jason and Ophelia, approaching her. She blinks quickly to clear her eyes of any tears, and tries to greet them, but it seems as if they can already tell there's something on her mind. Oh geez.. she hopes they don't think less of her or anything like that!!

"Hey camper," Jason says with a smile and a little wave, "Something troubling you?" His way of speaking is so gentle and encouraging, that Diana instantly feels very comforted by it. She nods a little bit, and half-nods,giving a slight shrug.
"Yeah I.. It's just.. My egg. It hasn't hatched yet, and its still warm but.. I've been trying for so long.. but..."

Jason nods and swishes his tail just a little, very perceptive of her current emotional state. "It's hard when everyone else has already moved ahead, right? I definitely know a thing or two about that." He shifts a little and messes with the compress on one of his hands.

Diana sighs softly and traces a fingertip on the egg, securing a better hold on it before looking back at the two of them.
"Right.. And even though I've been trying I can't help but just, like, worry! It feels as if perhaps It doesn't like me? Or I'm missing some important step, even though logic tells me otherwise."

Ophelia speaks up now, putting an arm around her dear Jason.
"And that's alright as well. Some things take time, but they end up being worth the wait in the end. A diamond isn't formed overnight, neither is a pearl," She smiles a little, and gives Diana a look of encouragement.
"And I know the love and care you've invested in this little pokemon will be well worth it once they hatch, whenever that may be."

Jason laughs a little bit, apparently very happy with how eloquently Phi was able to put things.
"Couldn't have said it better myself! And that's literal! I hope you know that you've always got people in your corner, Diana. From what I've seen, you have some rad friends, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you if you're ever feeling down. You aren't alone.. So just remember that when things seem blue. Get it? Since you're on the blue team!" He grins and rubs the back of his head, knowing it was pretty cheesy.

Diana smiled a little, feeling encouraged and considerably better after this talk. She smiles down at the egg, and gives it a little pat.
"..Thanks guys. That means a whole lot to me. I'm sure you'll turn out to be perfect, so take your time, little egg~"
