Someone asked me if I could illustrate children's books? They said they paid $15/spread USD and that they wanted me to make a sample of a young girl on the swing playing with her black and white cat in a playground setting.

I'm a little torn on this because a spread can take anywhere from 4-8 hours, and $15 is like paying someone pennies for that kind of work. Nevermind the 8 hours, can you imagine how much you'd be getting paid for hour if a spread took you 4? Which is, I would say, the minimum time it would take to make a decent spread. I don't have that kind of time for that to be worth it. The most I could hope for is $3.47 per hour. But probably less, because probably a quality spread would take closer to 6 hours, what, with multiple characters or a complicated background type of thing. I mean I spend 4 hours on TRANSPARENT full bodies of ONE character.

Anyway, I whipped this up in an hour and a half and that was the fastest I could make something like this. I'm not sure what kind of style she's looking for or how shaded she expects it to be. This is the best I can do for $15 per spread though. I guess $15 per spread is fine if she's looking for a more simplified style like this, with not a whole lot of shading or details...I hope.

Also humans aren't my strongpoint...
