Even if the wand that chose them wasn't as ornate as this one, couldn't they always customize their own wand? In the book Hagrid had what was left of his disguised as the ferrule of an umbrella; and in the film Lucius had his hidden in the topper of his cane, replacing the handle with a silver snake head. This did make me curious on what Rowling's official stance on wand mods is, since the former was to hide his still using magic and the latter was only detailed in the film (to the best of my memory).
