So I'm working on a concept for a pokemon tabletop rp campaign, and one of my potential players said they wanted their starter to be a dunsparse.

So it got me thinking of the classic "Dunsparse needs an evolution" stuff. But I got another idea instead. One that could sorta deliberately piss off people who want an evolution, which would be pretty funny.

I could instead, make a form change for dunsparse that would be helpful and relevant for the games narrative.

Thus I came up with this Dunsparse Hardship Form, which makes them normal/poison type.

When a dunsparse eats to much rotten food, their body shifts into a form to help them survive the apparent hardships they're expecting to face.

Their digestive system gets super charged, letting them digest food no matter how spoiled, as well as let them digest a few additional non-food options safely that they couldn't normally.
They put on weight and retain fluids, which can allow them to hibernate underground for significant lengths of time.
And to prevent predators taking advantage of this, they flood their body with poisons, making them all but inedible, and their chin spikes invert, becoming a pair of makeshift fangs. Letting them deliver a toxic bite.
Their poisons are further unique in being hallucinogenic, lowering accuracy in the moment, and making it hard to be sure of having met the strange looking dunsparse in the first place.

Put together, this is meant to tie dunsparse further in with it's mythological inspiration, being partially based off the Japanese mythical creature the tsuchinoko. Which is supposed to resemble a snake, but short, wide and flat with a taste for alcohol and the ability to fly short distances.
So, to translate that into pokemon, have myths about unusually wide dunsparse with weird abilities. And activate the form change with rotten berries. Because what is alcohol, but fermented fruit.
So basically, get your dunsparse drunk and unlock a secret form lol.
